Re: Things I have to watch out in Europe/Germany
I'm not sure if this applies to all German roads, but certainly on motorways, unless things have changed – A few years back, Motorway near Stuttgart. In 2 lanes of stationary cars, I'm filtering slowly down the centre, and pass a polizei patrol car, also stuck in traffic. 100 metres on, I see blue f...

Re: Monster Kubota thing, ebay UK
Thanks for posting this up Mark. One amazing machine! I've sent Olaanglia a message, warning about ebay's fee hike. In this category (motorcycle parts) I calculate that if someone clicks the buy-it-now for this machine, it could cost the seller a hefty £250 in selling fees! Please tell me I've got t...

Hi Bert, Looking at the recent Radiator bracket pics, Is that an idler pulley for your modified alternator, or is it the water pump pulley?

Re: Help! Cam-Crank timing, VW 1.9 diesel
Sorry Mark, can't help you with the specific info needed, but don't the cam pulley, pump pulley, and possibly the crank all have a hole that aligns with their respective backplate for that purpose (with a pin or bolt) ? No haynes manual for that engine? I needed to change the cambelt on my VW T5 a f...

Re: Dragon rally.
Its February, its cold, so it must be time for the Dragon rally in North Wales again. Its location usually changes each year, this time a (very scenic) sewage farm nr Capel Curig. This was my first rally on diesel power, and around a 330 mile round trip from the Midlands, taking in Caernarfon and Co...

I'm too am looking forward to meeting up again, this time with my diesel proj. The bat and ball is fine, but I did enjoy the rally at the seaman's mission (or whatever it's called) 2 years back. Maybe it was the fine weather, but If we end up there again I wouldn't mind a bit. Woodfest? Not heard of...

Yes , the dispatch/expert and possibly the scudo share the XUD as you say. I would think that a few Seats, and the odd Skoda may share the tdi engine, but i would expect to pay a bit more than a XUD! When the dual mass flywheel self-destructed on my VW T5 van(1.9TDI), my nephew (then a Ford mechanic...

DFDS-formerly Norfolkline have always screwed vans, private or commercial. I had an email from DFDS today offering 20% off Dover to Calais/Dunkirk sailings (using code EDISC20) but it only mentions cars. Worth trying though. Have fun you guys! Hamm is a great event in a fab location, sadly my projec...

Hi Eddy, There are some great creations out there to provide inspiration. You've seen the Modite, (last seen by me at Hamm dieseltreffen in 2010) but check Youtube for Heiko Fleck's CX500 diesel. Its an inline shafty, using either a LDW602 or 702 with a CVT. Only a short video but interesting nevert...

Re: Compression tester / fittings
Hi Ian, Amazing it still performs so well on one (and a half) pot?! Academic now, as you've already diagnosed it. but for future ref, Last year I bought a comp. tester kit off of evilbay which came with adapters, I used it to test my Rugger MD150 with this adapter which replaces the injector. Not su...

An overdue update for my build. Thanks for some interesting ideas and suggestions from Gilburton, Tappy, Coach and pietenpol, and Ian, who I met at the Big Knock, also SBrumby, who's creations can be seen elsewhere in this forum. Mounting my Lombo LDW702 diesel twin inline was my first choice, but I...

Re: Another new 'un.
Good to hear that its a runner! Presumably your diesel guy can do a compression check to ensure its running well on both cyls. If its been used as an industrial engine, there are different colour-coded governor springs available, mounted on the linkage in the cylinder head, depending on the rev-rang...

Yea, Similar situation unfortunately. Got a list as long as your arm. Been living with the rally as a deadline for completion for 2 months now.

Your MZ Robin is one nice looking bike - I hope it realises a decent price when you list it. You've ordered the brazing rod already probably, but I have a small amount of 'Alutight' low temp (380C) alloy brazing rod I can let you have?

Re: Shaft drive dilemma
Another option is to go fly wheel forward. Chain or belt off your CVT to an intermediate drive shaft that runs along side the block to a Ujoint at the swing arm that the final drive attaches to. One advantage to this is you can change sprockets on the chain portion to adjust the final ratio's outpu...

Shaft drive dilemma
My project is a Kwak ZL cruiser married to an Lombo LDW702. The layout is similar to 'Modite' in germany, if you've seen it. I'm attempting to retain the shaft drive. Unfortunately the shaft is on the left and counter-rotates compared to the LDW flywheel. I could find a bmw/goldwing/CX right hand sh...

G'day Ian, As with Erik, I also have an MD150, with low compression on one pot, Not had time to strip it yet, and hoping to find a valve not seating, but I'm guessing that I may need piston/rings/barrel, or oversize piston/rings. I will look out for your list, as there will be other bits needed. Hav...

Whilst I'm not a member of MAG (motorcycle Action Group – for non UKers), several of my biking mates are, and I don't hesitate to join them on demo runs to protest at these lunatic rules. Honda diesel engine - Ebay UK - ending 21/10/12
Hi all, Not sure of its suitability, but an interesting VeeTwin diesel engine on EvilBay. Unusual in that its a belt drive to the generator, which sounds simpler to adapt for primary drive maybe? I recall testing the output on one of these many years ago (now a retired sparky). My abiding memory was...
