How very unfortunate. Yet again GOVERNMENT will step forward to protect all the people from their own lame-brained stupidity of self. Once again GOVERNMENT finds yet another excuse to implement CONTROL over the people. My how it warms the cockles of the heart to see their altruistic, selfless caring for the well being of strangers to themselves. Oh how it does cause the bile to rise up from deep in the gut to gag to puking. There's nothing else in that document or their intentions except to CONTROL.

Once again we see how out of touch those in power really are. The footnote to stop performance improvements on bikes to make them safer says they've never ridden a modern motorcycle over 175cc's! Man, you can kill yourself with a modern 175cc bike just as easily as a 1,500cc and for a fact a Honda 50 will do nicely for that purpose.

3/4 of the wrecks if not more are caused by dimwitted car drivers who are first incapable of piloting their vehicle, and also too simple minded to multi-task the processes, while they're also raising the odds by yakking on a cell phone or applying makeup or both or worse.

Sad...

Add to this the new driver rules that are out in January. 24years old to drive a big bike. I am afraid motorcycleing will be the presurve of old men with old bikes.

Or the stuff of classic videos and museums if they had their way.

I wonder how may EU bureaucrats involved in this nonsense have ever ridden a motorbike, or even swung a leg over a bike? I think virtually none! They give the impression of being as 'brain dead' as a biker coming off his motorbike in an accident, without wearing a helmet!!

Also wonder if they take any account of cages (cars), vans and trucks engine emissions, when stuck in traffic jams all year round virtually every day in the EU, pointlessly burning millions of gallons/litres of fuel each year, whilst going no-where for long periods of time, when bikes and mopeds steadily zip past the 'motoring dinosaurs' in city traffic? I think not!
They want to regulate bikes and mopeds off the road, most probably due to the failing car industry lobby in Europe - car sales are dramatically down this year, and they are getting desperate.

One glimmer of hope is that the EU unelected 'grey suits' can't even run a "p**s up in a brewery"! when it comes to the running the Euro currency and the EU economy; and the way the EU is going, hopefully it will be bust by 2016 and starting to collapse, so there won't be any money or political legitimacy to enforce this worthless set of laws.

Otherwise motorbikes and biking as we know it, will become extinct as will the European Union in the near future!
Enjoy riding your bikes whilst you can......

Hopefully it encourages hundreds of thousands of European bikers and biker groups to ride on Brussels yet again, to demonstrate and bring the city to a standstill, and the politicians eventually to their senses.
There's nothing like the smell of burnt vegetable oil in the morning!!

All these rules are only serving to make it harder for potential bikers in the long run. Maybe the excellent mpg figures offered by our bikes will provide added incentive for those who want or need to travel about at a fraction of the cost?

Much of the innovation of diesel bikes has come from your side of the big pond. Partially fueled by high fuel prices, partially fueld by a different set of emotional ties to motorcycling; your side of the big pond had wind set your sails toward building diesel bikes more so than others. These sails were lifted by wind earlier than other countires and the wind was stronger too. My worry with this legistation is in continued development of diesel bikes. How much wind will this take out of the sails of innovative folk on your side of the pond's desire to develop diesel bikes? Afraid, this will force the wind in new directions and leave diesel bike sails floundering.

Im saddened :( Im also very confused on why I got so lost in the Sail/wind euphemism in the above.

Whilst I'm not a member of MAG (motorcycle Action Group – for non UKers), several of my biking mates are, and I don't hesitate to join them on demo runs to protest at these lunatic rules.
This week I've written to 2 local MEP's here in the UK midlands, who are on the committee with a vote in these matters. I would urge any project-building biker to fight these proposals. Find your MEP here - http://www.ridersarevoters.org/ http://www.mag-uk.org/
