Bike
Dnepr from the 70's thats all I know for now.

Re: Sachs Dnepr Diesel
Well, I haven't ridden it as of yet. Might be faster, (very doubt-full).
But the guy asked me to post it on the forum as people here might be interested.
If he gets it running I'll see if I can get in a test ride, tell you guys more about the performance of this mean two-stroke machine.

Re: Sachs Dnepr Diesel
We need a rider report on this! Not many two stroke diesel bikes about. I have the 3 manuals for this engine if it's the same Sach engine used in the Howard Gem rotovator.
Stuart. M1030M1, Honda NC700S, Grom!, Toyota Corolla 1.4 Turbo Diesel. Favouring MPG over MPH.

Re: Sachs Dnepr Diesel
I've been asking around about this engine and discovered a few things.
- If you enlarge the exhaust port you can easily increase the power output to about 13 HP.
- These engines are really hard to fine-tune but once you got them dialed in they're bulletproof.
I'll see what I can do about that rider report, its not road legal here due to the foreign papers.

What papers does the bike have?
Usually a lot easier (at the moment) to get a UK registration.
So best hand it over to me then...
The motor's sound really nice:

Re: Sachs Dnepr Diesel
Dave, I sure hope its easier in the UK.
The bike has Latvian papers but is still registered as a normal Dnepr bike with petrol engine. (This causes problems when treeing to register it in the Netherlands).
Handing it over will happen with the proper exchange of goods for currency. (Not my bike you see).
The person whose selling it told me hes going to try and get it running this week.
And yes, the two-stroke does sound really nice.

Latvian?
Well if the motor came out of some East German mini-tractor then it's not surprising I suppose. At least it's not Nigeria and I just need to pay the import taxes with an open direct debit mandate from my bank account.
I have registered classic bikes in the UK with new engine numbers and managed to retain the age on the registration documents:
Ever seen a 1964 C100 that does 58 mph:
Or a '65 CM90 that does 80 plus mph?

Erm, I've just done a bit of a You Tube search on this motor...
You do realise it needs a bit of burning string to start it........
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h9F0QDa-QKQ
The 'performance' curve peaks at 2100 rpm and goes downhill rapidly after that, OK it will feel like 4200 as it's a 2 stroke but could give you a gearing headache?

Re: Sachs Dnepr Diesel
O yeah it needs a starting wick, but a lit cigarette would probably work aswell. (I've seen enormous diesel engines get started like that)

Alltough starting your dieselbike with shotgun shells would be freaking amazing...
