Re: Need members advice, thanks
Hey Cris, It might just be something stupid wrong with it, like a gunked up fuel filter or a bad hose going to the injection pump. I flushed the fuel tank on my engine and replaced the hoses before I even tried to start it. The line going to the injector was full of air, I just cracked open the fitt...

Re: VW Powered Dnepr
Should idle OK at 500 RPM. My 1.6 Diesel VW car will idle REAL slow, but shakes like heck, at 500 RPM it is not bad but clutch chatters when engaging. I drove it in 4th gear when the shift linkage broke and stuck, I had to slip the clutch a lot taking off but made it home after stalling a lot. But, ...

Re: witch engine should i use
If you want to cruise at 80 you'll need about 25 HP+! Quite a heavy Diesel, then you'll need a heavier frame, wheels, and transmission, which will add more weight, requiring more horsepower to get decent acceleration, etc. etc. Check what other successful builders have done on this site and their re...

Re: Lighter starter motor
I've a big old ancient Lister 2 cylinder with electric starter (it also has a crank just to taunt the hapless soul with a dead battery!) The starting procedure is just as you say, flip the decompression levers on both cylinders, hit the starter and when it is up to speed, flip off the decompressors....

All I can find (you've probably seen the same thing) is that that eBay driven unit is for a Manco go-cart, I looked at the old Comet website (they're now temporarily defunct) and couldn't find that number so it seems to be a proprietary unit. For the price, it may be worth getting to experiment with...

Hey there! Check out the bikes in the pictures on this site, there are a couple of Honda CB350's, etc. I picked up a Suzuki GS550 "cruiser" about 20 years ago? (can't remember exactly) to use as a base for a Diesel bike, but at the time couldn't find an engine I could afford. I bought an o...

I like the idea of making a taper to fit your crank. With a taper attachment lathe setup (or the cross slide on a larger lathe) it is not hard to bore either a tapered bushing to adapt to a straight bore CVT or to make a flange with a tapered ID to fit a larger CVT drive pulley. I would machine the ...

Some works of art! I'll bet these machines do the job intended of them, and do it well. Heck, I wouldn't want any speed out of them if I was sitting on the bench in the back! I like the springer fork, is that an ancient pre-war Enfield one? This is one of the universal truths, that a springer fork i...

Re: Yanmar L90 problem
You should be able to find the manual online for the Yanmar (check the "engine manuals" links in this group). Sounds like me that either it is too cold for the fuel to really ignite well (the smoke you are getting is mostly fuel vapor), or as you say the timing or vaporisation of the fuel ...

Re: Is anyone out there converting a petrol engine to diesel?
This would be an interesting exercise, but it would take on the pursuit of a one-man R&D team. If you are pursuing just a diesel bike to ride it would be a daunting and probably frustrating exercise. If you like to tinker and "show them that it could be done", then it would be a fun pa...

Swapping Intake and Exhaust -Opinions???
I've been trying to work out a reasonably straightforward exhaust for my Hatz E79 powered Suzuki, and it seems impossible to do without a gazillion 90 degree bends to bring the exhaust from the "rear" of the engine to the muffler, and over and around the jackshaft without burning my ankle....

Re: alloy cylinder head repair - possible on a diesel?
Hi mark, Does any of these engines shoe lots of soot in the water jacket? That would be a sure sign of either head gasket failure or head cracking. I have had the same experience with VW engines like albertaphil- cracking between valve seats- no worry. You could pressure test the block/head assembly...

Nice looking machine, but that thing looks like it smokes more than my Hatz! But, I shouldn't talk 'cause mine is STILL sitting in the garage in bits. I would've thought that they could have coaxed more speed out of that than 102 MPH. Maybe you're right, I think they didn't want to blow up their one...

Lombardini and Ruggerini/Deutz engines in U.S. for Sale
I have a Ruggerini/Deutz engine and a Lombardini for sale- both are in excellent condition and approx. 6-7 HP??? They are newer, modern designs, electric start, and have "automotive style" throttles, not constant speed. I will post pictures and more details if there is any interest. I can ...

They were the Kawasaki Mule Diesel, said "Diesel" right on them, kind of a desert tan color. Looked same as the civvy models, nothing special. Also were about 4 of the of the smaller "ride on" ATV types on the trailer (vs. the bench seat Mule), couldn't get a good look at them, b...

Just got back from an almost nonstop trip to Florida and back (in a cage) and saw a couple of trucks near Ft. Bragg (home of the U.S. Army Special Forces) with Diesel ATV's on them. Duh, I see now that it was listed under Boat engines! What could that little engine and gearbox have come out of? Doesn't quite look like a small tractor or mower setup. Really cute deal, I would've wanted it if it was on this side of the pond, and maybe would've driven 700 miles to get it! (but I think that I would have spared my wife the trip, she wo...

Too bad if you can't scoff up that CVT, it would save you about $300! But the engine isn't one to pass up, and if you want a CVT they can be found on eBay cheap if you look long enough. A friend has a Kubota 4wd utility vehicle, it has the same engine I have for my "second project", a Kubo...

Hey Karmadog- Sounds like you've got a good find! Does the stocker on a pallet have the CVT assembly? Or do you have the CVT on the wrecked machine? Re: On Biodiesel and other alternative fuel for diesel engine
Biodiesel has seemed to have a niche commercial market here in the Northeast US. Most of the local colleges and some of the towns run their Diesel vehicles on Bio, but some have had problems, mainly due to ignorance IMHO. Of course, this is the touchey-feely green living Northeast US. There is a loc...
