To reach the leak will have to strip chaincase off T...

Fuel tank rear lugs
Have a 2002 RE with Hatz and noticed the fuel tank was moving about a bit so checked the bolts etc and found that one of the back lugs securing tank to frame had broken off. Most replies I have had (Hitchcocks web site) suggest leaving it with just one but looking at the amount of weld ( about a qua...

Re: gearbox grease leak 4 speed
The problem is namely grease coming along the clutch push rod and dripping onto the kick start spring (when I took the main shaft cover off there was no grease in there) the advice Hitchcocks offered was to check that the oil throwers were fitted the correct way around. Following on from my posting ...

Re: insurance UK
Insurance due for renewal so called Carole Nash (my bike, Charnwoods Hatz, was insured with them in 2005) and they point blank refused to offer insurance saying "we don't offer insurance for that type of bike" Note that Stuart is insured with them so not sure why I was refused. Returned to...

Re: Kick starting
Many thanks to andrewaust Thundercougarfalconbird and Dan J andrewaust on this engine it is an automatic decompressor but will try the full throttle and three turns over. Sphere, running not a problem it would always start on the key but just could not kickstart it. Will do as Diesel Dave suggested and put so fresh diesel in to the tank and try again.I know summer diesel is different from winter and at the moment I have last years summer stuff in the tank so it may j...

Stuart showed me several times and it always started for him but not for me.I fitted a recoil starter still no luck. Then met Trevor at the 2008 Big Knock and he explained where I was going wrong. Hatz IB30/gearing
I have a RE/Hatz IB30 which a year ago I fitted a 18 tooth g/box sprocket. Asked around and it seemed the thing to do. Have now gone back to a 17 tooth. Bike so much better to ride being more flexible and cruse speed is easy to reach (50) works for me. Can ride around 30 zones in top and then accele...

air filter
To oldbmw,
how the heck do I get a bigger airbox onto the Hatz???
Looking at Stuart's 1B30 he has cut an extra hole in the airbox claiming that a slight improvmet at speed was noticed but tickover was a bit worse. Still all ideas welcomed.

1B30 air filter
Been looking to improve the airflow on my Hatz RE as and when you find a filter to fit pop a note on the page for me please. Have thought about cutting an old one up and fitting the end bits onto a performance filter. Just an idea.

hatz internal oil filter
Andrew, thanks for the info but the main problem with my bike along with all Charnwood 1B30 engine builds is that the engine HAS to come out of the frame to get to the filter. Now I am not sure if I can drop the engine down or do as Charnwood said and remove it to the right (when sitting on it ) I a...
