Hatz IB30/gearing

I have a RE/Hatz IB30 which a year ago I fitted a 18 tooth g/box sprocket.
Asked around and it seemed the thing to do. Have now gone back to a 17 tooth.
Bike so much better to ride being more flexible and cruse speed is easy to reach (50) works for me. Can ride around 30 zones in top and then accelerate away with ease. Downside is mpg has dropped from 200 back to 170/180. Engine seemed to be out of it's power band if there is one. So just a suggestion if you have the IB30 stick with a 17 tooth.

Gearing

Much depends upon the size of your rear tyre.

I have a Mitas 4.00 on the rear and it ups the gearing by about a tooth equivalnt on the gearbox sprocket.

On the other hand using a TT100 on the back sizes up smaller that the avon speedmeister by about half a tooth equivalent.

I'm running a 17 with th 4.00 tyre and gear out at 54mph at 3600 but can pull over 60 with 4000rpm showing on the downhill/tailwind bits.

I did run an 18 with the Avon.

Forgot to mention....

Th close ratio garset makes a big difference and there's about 500rpm between 3rd and 4th - makes hillclimbing much easier.

Not too difficult to fit - even I managed!

Dave,
yes i remember talking to you at the big knock about Mitas tyres did not realise they made a difference to top speed.Anyway I have just fitted K70's 3.50 rear 3.25 front. As for the cr gears yep had them for over a year now and as you say an expensive buy but worth it did fit them but had help with a hydraulic press.
Have a good Christmas and hope to see you next big knock 09
