Re: Aerofairing and fuel consumption on an Enfield clone
I looked real close at the Avonaire fairings and the teardrop panniers like on the BMW in the link when thinking of improving my CB250. Only problem, all the fairings were too big for the little CB. :( In the USA, take a look at readily available fairings at http://www.airtech-streamlining.com/ They...

look into how many volts and amps they draw. You may find out the weight of batteries to operate it make it only viable for drag racing. Even then, a well engineered turbo or belt driven supercharger will net better performance.

Re: 2 stroke oil in diesel instead of bio-diesel
BioD is a very good lube. Notice at 2% added it was the best lube additive on the list. If you are making your own fuel, you must make sure you get it purified before running it. As I recall there are acids and base used that if they are not removed will do damage to metal parts. BioD is also...

Re: Power to weight and speed .
Common rail engines are more demanding of fuel quality than older style mechanical injection pump motors. They all need the lubricity, or slipperyness, which bio definitely has. Bio will attack various rubber and plastics. From what I understand most manufactures won’t state their parts will use bio...

Re: Fred's HDT diesel super bike goes to India?
I spoke briefly with Fred at the Mid-Ohio, Craig Vetter fuel economy challenge earlier this year. I point blank said I have seen talk the HDT diesel bike is going into production in India, any chance the bike will be sold in the USA? The reply was basically he sold the company and is only a consulta...

if you are getting unburnt fuel while cranking, could be glow plugs, carboned up rings/ stuck rings not giving enough compresion? hard to diognose via posts on the webs. I built this circuit for my VW Scirocco 1.6TD autocross car. http://www.4crawler.com/Diesel/CheapTricks/Tachometer/index.shtml The circuit simulates the signal from the gas engine coil. VW diesels with tach received a signal from the alternator. I used the optical sensor but someplace I saw where yo...

Hammering if meaning the bad knocking sound related to combustion, it can be. From what I gather most hammering is a timing issue of start of injection compared to piston position. The height of the injector can impact the ultimate timing of combustion. I had the wrong thickness of heat sheild shim ...

yup, in the 50's. it was so slow the people who stole it left it on the side of the road and walked way.CIDE wrote:It shouldn't be the first boxer diesel. Didn't VW do it as a prototype for a bug with the 1.3 liter?

the VW 4 cyl car motors out of Rabbit/Jetta/Golf are easy to get here in the US. You can get the 3cyl from the Lupo and Polo shipped here. The problem and weak link is the transmission. I want something dead reliable. I'm waiting on a transmision to come to market that will solve the reliability iss...

you could do what happend to the prototype diesel Beetle back in the 50's. Steel it. Problem with the diesel beetle, it was so underpowered, even less power than a factory 1200 beetle, the perps left it sitting on the side of the road and walked away from it.

have they tried to plant it in the South East USA? Kudzu is a ground cover in Japan easy to control until planted in the S.E. USA. For those who don't know, it grows uncontrolably here. Mouse, do you have a fuel pump building guru in your area that can tweak the fuel pump to let the motor run at 500rpm? Most VW diesels I know idle at 900rpm. It should have enough torque to get a bike moving down that low. Im not sure I would like to be stuck in stop and go traffic with it tho. Cour...
