Hi, is hammering closely related to the distance between the injector nozzle and piston?

Hammering if meaning the bad knocking sound related to combustion, it can be. From what I gather most hammering is a timing issue of start of injection compared to piston position. The height of the injector can impact the ultimate timing of combustion. I had the wrong thickness of heat sheild shim on one motor and it did run better when I put in the correct thickness.

do believe that "nailing" is the other term used for this. Simply dirty injectors can do this. Before you get to carried away... run some Lubramolly diesel Purge thru it. Best clean w/that product is to pull the fuel line and run a temporary draw and return line right into the can and run and rev the bike right out of the can.
