Nissan Diesels usually have cracks between the valves and it doesn't seem to matter. I've heard the same about the invinceable Cummins B series too...

Re: Propane (lpg) fumigation for noise reduction???
From what I have read Diesel "Knock" is caused by delay in the fuel burning which then lets the fuel build up for a fraction of a second which then ignites all at once. Propane causes it to burn immediatley reducing knock. Delay is what causes a cold diesel to make a louder knock than a wa...

Re: Transmission options for a longitudinaly mounted engine
I have a Rokon 2 wheel drive 2 stroke 10 hp with 2 right angle gear boxes, 3 chains, a drive shaft with 2 U joints, a jack shaft, and an over run clutch ( to keep the front and rear wheels from binding on turns ) - and it goes pretty well with all that! Happy new year! http://i224.photobucket.com/al...

Re: how much oil to my valves? (ruggerini twin)
There should be an oil line with a banjo bolt feeding the head. You could loosen the banjo bolt and make sure there is oil getting there. You could flush the engine out by sloshing diesel fuel around and then dumping it. Don't be tempted to run it with any solvents in the oil. I think that does more...

Re: Turbo's on singles - effective or not?
I think the problem mostly is that you don't have enough volume to spin the turbo fast enough to do anything. It probably needs about 1000cc's turing 2,500 rpm to start to build boost. Also I'm guessing you did the test with no load? If the engine is loaded that would help because the heat also make...

Re: Possible engine alteration for lombardini power pack
Neat engine!
Vote #2 for welding the differential and having a complete power packedge in one unit. Do the axles turn the same way as the engine or the opposite way?

2cyl Lombardini, Hatz, and KZ550 weights
The 1120cc 9LD561 Lombardinin I picked up the other day weighs 120kg and the Hatz 2G30 912cc weighs in at 84 KG. I guess that mean I will have to use the Hatz because the Lombardini is just too much extra weight for not enough extra power. The KZ550 engine that was in the bike weights in at 70.5 KG ...

Re: How much weight can I take off the flywheel?
Mine seems extra heavy (16+kilos) - probably to make it run as smooth as possible. Extra weight isn't ususally a problem for industrial use but I don't want extra on my bike. It also take the engine a while to accelerate all that iron. I guess I will start turing some off and see how it runs...

How much weight can I take off the flywheel?
I got a Lombardini 1120cc 2cyl that has a pretty heavy flywheel. I'm going to put it in the lathe and start taking meat off of it to lighten it. The flywheel is blank and the cooling fan is on the otherside. The question is how much flywheel to I need to have it run well? I guess I can go by trial a...

I can say that the ACME MOTORI 1,300cc and the HATZ G30 have almost identical crank cases. The cylinders are bigger on the ACME MOTORI and the manifolds are all on one side where the HATZ has a cross flow head. I was told the Lombardini was almost the same as the HATZ but between the G30 and G40 HAT...

Romoving the cooling shrowd and no fan cooling?
I was looking at my Hatz 2cyl and noticed that if I run it cross ways the cooling air out of the engine will be facing forward! That's no good! What if I let it cool like any other motorcycle with by removing all the shrowds??? Would it cool well enough? My guess is yes but has anyone else done that?

I have two of them now. The apear to have the same crank case as the HATZ. The heads are a little different. My Hatz has a cross flow and these have both manifolds on one side. I would bet a $100 that the bottom end is exactly the same as HATZ. There must be some design sharing going on in Europe. T...

I could use a Mustang t-5 that has overdrive but they are about 75 lbs without a clutch and flywheel so maybe 100 lbs total. That is kind of heavy. I could go with a harley set up and belt drives but they are pretty expensive thease days... I'd still mount it all in line and use the shaft drive. I'd...

Ancient 3 speed car transmission
I have a '78 Honda Goldwing with a 3.4 to 1 rear ratio which gives about 65mph at 3,000 rpm I have a HATZ 2G30 3,000 rpm max. I have a '20 or '30s car 3 speed which is quite small. High is 1to1 as you would expect. Second is pretty deep 1.77 to one. You guys with HATZ engines have to shift down much...

Acme Motori engines?
I'm looking at a surplus two cylinder Acme Motori Diesel. It is about 1300 cc. Does anybody know if they are good engines? It is pretty small and light for the size.

I have a CT Trail 90 here in Santa Cruz Ca. It gets about a 100 miles to a US gallon at 45mph.
Theas guys did 200 to 470 mpg at 60 mph back in the early '80s. I'm going to try to build a fairing for myself.
