Hello,
Just ran into this that looks suspiciously like a diesel

Hatz.... bang!!!!
Well it wasn't really a bang.. but it has stopped working. I noticed it was sounding a bit funny just before I got to a friends house. When I went to leave it wouldn't start. Got out the jump leads to try and fire it up and it would fire every now and then but make strange, scary, kind of scrapey no...

Re: Enfield 'wobble'.
I've noticed light wobbling a few times on my Enfield at low speeds. Nothing uncontrollable but it is a little surprising.

Re: Combined fuel feed/return
Yes, good save Dave.
It would depend a bit what engine / injection pump set up you have. Some return lines are always pressurised (eg. Bosch rotary pump) but not all are. I guess that a one way valve could be used to stop possible filter bypass via a return line that was Td into the fuel line feed.

Re: 2 stroke oil in diesel instead of bio-diesel
After lots of damage when low sulphur diesel first came out I think that diesel fuel sellers will have addressed the lack of lubricity in their fuel by using suitable additives. What we buy as fuel is carefully engineered with additives to give the desired properties. Fuel emissions standards mean t...

Re: Kubota - which injection pump?
The injection pump should last for as long as the engine as long as you dont get too many particles or too much water water in it. Not likely to be the fail point on most engines so you should be able to source a used pump from a dead engine There is a reasonable chance they will have used different...

Re: Combined fuel feed/return
T-ing in the pipe will not damage the pump due to overheat. I know lots of people that have done this to run on vegetable oil. Sometimes they run diesel in these vehicles without problems. I've run cars with big fuel heaters on diesel fuel for extended periods (a year plus). The fuel would have been...

Re: Cav Fuel filter
vegetable oil and biodiesel dont really have much effect on most kinds of 'rubber' found in fuel systems. Viton isnt really necessary. The whole issue with vegetable oil/rubber is overblown. Some types of 'rubber' can get a bit weird over time but most are fine. This is far less of a problem with ve...

Re: Kubota - which injection pump?
Zexel and Diesel Kiki are both Japanese diesel fuel injection equipment manufacturers. Both licence technology from Bosch.
Most stationary or mini tractor diesel engines use jerk pumps (UPS injection in the Bosch picture on this page engines)
If you dont mind me asking why do you want to know?

Re: Fuel Filters
That sounds a bit like overkill to me Dave. For non-marine stuff only commonrail engines would have such fine filtration. Thats because they use very finely machined parts and bigger particles could quickly cause enough damage to make a significant difference to the fluid flow characteristics. Its v...

Re: Oil extraction
Dont know that youd be able to get oil from your grass - dont think there is much oil in it? I only know of oil being extracted from plant matter with high oil content - normally seeds / nuts. I've seen a couple of working oil presses. One was pressing linseed the other rapeseed. Both were screw pre...

Re: Smart engine - It LIVES!!!
My turbo had a bush/big fat washer thrust bearing, once again with holes for the oil to be pumped through. If your turbo is variable vane I'd check for contact with the vanes in all position. I guess end float may well be different from one type of turbo to another. Not sure how important it is as, ...

Re: Smart engine - It LIVES!!!
I've successfully rebuilt a turbo on a old Mercedes diesel. Mine, like many others, ran in bushes rather than roller bearings. The bushes have holes that oil is pumped into so that the shaft in effect floats on a bed of oil in the bush. If I remember right, there was play even with the new bushes fi...

I use fuse holders like the one pictured below for glow plug. You can pick them up cheap from ebay - or I can supply, probably a bit cheaper. Got all kinds of automotive type electrical stuff to sell, and can get loads more, including a large range of glow plug relays - not got much of it up on my w...

Re: Sensor wiring
Quite a few pre-ECU vehicles have an engine temp sensor which is connected to the glow plug relay and used to determine the length of the glow periods (pre and post start) I sometimes add resistance to the sensor circuit to increase glow times to improve starting and cold running when fuelling with ...

Re: Sensor wiring
Hello John, Many Bosch VE type pumps dont have a cold engine advance unit. I think they were generally fitted to improve emissions to comply with regulations in the markets in which they were being sold. Not heard of a tacho signal being taken from an IP sensor. Generally diesels use a engine speed ...

Re: Daihatsu engine
Central heating fuel does not have the lubricants added that you need to lubricate your injection pump.
I'd avoid using this fuel, or add a good lubricant - rapeseed oil or rapeseed biodiesel is a great lubricant at low blend levels.

I've owned a couple of VW cars that had a 1.9 indirect injection engine, run well on neat vegetable oil with a few modifications.
There is also some details of bikes using the same engine at http://www.dieselbike.net/vw.htm

I don't think that it would be a rev counter probably cold engine advance, possibly increasing the idle speed with cold engine. I wrote a lot about the various modules used on Bosch VE pumps. Your engine will have a Japanese manufactured licensed copy. Lots of different modules used but something on...

Sounds like you are on the right track with fixing the Golf. Shame that, due to the circumstances, progress is slow. Good that all those people have been prepared to help out. I expect Lindsy knows, but in in case not, the oil warning light has nothing to do with the ECU module. The pedal sensor is ...
