Cav Fuel filter

Post by alexanderfoti »

Hi all

I have a cav fuel filter, like so:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Single-Fuel-F ... 500wt_1180

The drain screw on the glass bowl at the bottom is leaking, presumably due to veg oil against the rubber o rings.

Any ideas where I can get a new seal kit or viton seals? I can not find these anywhere! short of buying a whole replacement unit just for the seals!

I also though about replacing it with a car filter unit or one of these:

Can anybody see any issues with either routes?

Many thanks !

A replacement filtercartridge fot the CAV comes with a complete gasket set.
And about the tiny ïnline "filter" I would not use them unless the minimum
particle size the filter captures , is specified.

Ah okay, many thanks.

Any idea if you can get viton seals, as I think the veg oil is destroying mine :(

I never seen viton quad rings (as used in the CAV), but probably O-rings will work equally well
I can check my stock if you give me the the inner diameter and rubber diameter

vegetable oil and biodiesel dont really have much effect on most kinds of 'rubber' found in fuel systems. Viton isnt really necessary. The whole issue with vegetable oil/rubber is overblown. Some types of 'rubber' can get a bit weird over time but most are fine. This is far less of a problem with vegetable oil compared to biodiesel.

I sell the CAV/Delphi filters. There are two seals at the bottom. One between the glass and metal, the other under the drain plug. Unfortunately you dont get these rubbers with a new filter cartridge.

If you take the filter apart and clean it all up as long as the rubber parts are not ripped, soft or significantly deformed(swollen) I would expect it to stop leaking when you put it all back together again.
