Bike with homebuilt engine

After helping with the build of the jawa dieselbike , i want built my own bike.

This are some specs of the new bike:

- homebuilt engine with parts of a yanmare clone (418 cc)
- a suzuki dr 350 6 speed gearbox is fitted (maybe a dry clutch??)
- homebuilt frame
- brembo wheels and brakes (17" wheels)
- cagiva mito frontfork

It will be a sporty looking bike.

I have already started with the design of the engine/gearbox.

I started with making the easy parts.

Here are the first parts.

A set of triple clamps.
Made out of 6082 T6 aluminium.
Cnc milled.

After some frame calculations i have more specs of the new bike.

Wheelbase : 1390 mm
Castor angle : 25 °


The front wheel will be a 17"x 3.00
The front tire 110/70-17

The back wheel will be a 17" x 4.00
The back tire 150/60-17

The next thing i going to do is design and build the swingarm.

Homebuilt engine? Now that's something I'd love to hear more about Displacement, cyl count, layout, injection, induction? 2 or 4 stroke?

I have several cadcam programs.
But i find cambam the best one.

Some update on the build.

I have bought a set of ligthweigth brembo wheels.

And i lost more weight on the wheels by removing the spoke covers.
Each cover weighs 500 gram.
So the total weight reduction is 1.5 Kg each wheel.
The next step is to sandblast the wheels.

Aerodynamic drag w/out those covers might be more of a gain then the weight you reduced? Besides what weight you keep you want down low. But judging by your post you know shiats more about this stuff than I do

You are absolutely right about the drag.
But the advantage of light wheels are much bigger than the drag isseu of the wheels.

Light wheels give a much better handeling in corners (specially good for the suspension) , better braking and a better acceleration.

Still working on the design.
I'm very busy with my own business , so the project is not going fast.

But it will be a 416 cc one cilinder.
With a cassette gearbox , external fuelpump , overhead camshaft and liquid cooled cylinder.

New start with the project.
Because i was very busy in my own company (making motorcycle parts and building motorcycles) i had no time for this project.

I started with the engine build a few weeks ago.
First i wanted to build a complete new engine , but i took a suzuki dr650 engine as a base.

And back on the project.
and from now on I will continue with the diesel every Saturday or Sunday.

I took a piston from a lifan 192 diesel because the piston pin exactly matches that of a suzuki dr650.

the piston is about 6mm higher than the dr650 piston.
but a new cylinder liner has to be made.
make it 6 mm longer and make a pocket into the cylinderhead .
