Aixam CVT

These cars are still very expensive as are the parts in the UK so when they do come up for parts they are generally quite expensive,
The Aixam is the only one which uses the Kubota diesel engine.
Microcar used to use the Lombardini diesel but this was dropped in favour of a petrol version therefore the only transmission suitable for diesel bikes is from an Aixam.
My CVT was made in Canada but without taking the bike apart I can't confirm the numbers and I believe it came from an early Aixam.
I would suggest if you want more info you look at the aixam and microcar group on yahoo groups.
It's a UK group and plenty of info can be had there as most owners do their own maintenance. :)

OK I'll eat my words if you go to ebay uk and enter aixam cvt there is currently a used drive pulley £20
driven pulley £15, belt £10.
The drive pulley is on a taper adapter so you will need this as well but not listed. These are the prices now but no "buy it now" price so they could be a bargain depending on final price.

I put this question to the aixam group. I had the reply that they are definately CVtech IBC powerbloc units. No part numbers but I'm sure CVtech could provide the settings. :)

Next time your on that list check with them to see if they are Power Block 50's, Powerblock 80's or Powerblock ALT's.

Let them know that Powerblocks (all three) are also used on snowmobiles so their might be another source of parts for Aixiam folk and Diesel Bike/Trike builders. Wonder what CVTech Secondary the Axiam used? (dimension?) hmmmm

Not many snowmobiles over here :)
I seem to remember mine was about 7" and it said "fabrique en Canada" or something like that.
It might be better if some Canadian members enquired??
We don't have easy access to a lot of this over here. All I know is my local kart dealer sells CVtech units but I've never really had a lot to do with him as they won't be set up for diesels so it's easier just to get the "official" parts from Aixam dealers.
I've no doubt someone will come up with actual numbers some time?

Dont count out the snowmobiles..... you'ld be suprised how many folk head toward snow in the winter for recreation. Thus there is folk who service and sell parts for them as well.

So 7" diameter Secondary... hmm.. thought they were bigger.. interesting- ohhhhh, Wait... that still goes thru a transmission too which might bump the ratio again before output.

From watching the R&R video's.... I'ld say order the parts you need (weights-rollers, helix and springs) from the cart guy "if prices" are better that is in your area and rebuild the CVT yourself. Looks pretty straight forward.

Please check with those fellows to see if any one has a parts diagrahm and parts numbers? Maybe some of the numbers will cross to CVT's number system?

Found a site in Sweden bildepan frontosa?? they list all the parts but I don't think it will help.
Tried a link but didn't work but it comes up in a google search second on the list.
Probably the best bet would be to get the actual numbers off the parts if Tim is interested.

these Primary Cluthes/Pulley seem to resemble the CVTech Series 06 buttt.... according to their website.... are not reccomended for mini cars

Where the Powerbloc AT is

then again maybe the Powerbloc ALT was not available before 2010?

I have been trying to get an Axiam CVT unit from one of the popular online auction sites, OK then it's ebay, I have never known anything being so elusive to get. Everything I bid on seems to rocket in price. I could have got a 316i beemer for less than some of final auction prices or even a brand new unit.

Perhaps I should bite the bullet and up my max bid to a quid (dollar twenty-five for you folks Stateside).

I have a couple of requests.

1. Please stop bidding on the same stuff as I am (I bet it's Tim collecting parts for his Superdream VI).
2. If anyone has a spare do you want to sell it?

Insomnia is a wonderful thing 12:45am and I'm wide awake.

These are the people in the UK to ask about new prices to give you a guide as they also do CV Tech.
They don't seem to have any in stock at the moment but they do Max Torque as well as Comet and are quite helpful :)

These people in Wisbech break a few microcars

or you could just buy the lot engine/CVT etc??

I found this repair manual link for the Aixam it contains info about dismantling the CVT. It is a free download.
