Convert to Kerosene ?
Nothing, apart from the fact that over the years, diesel engine injector and pump design have been highly optimised to run on diesel fuel (heavy fuel oil). So the injector timing settings, and possibly the fuel pump would have to be modified, for long term use. It's just one of those unfortunate fa...

Re: Kerosene as Motorcycle Fuel ?
.... it kinda felt like I was running on air if you know what I mean. Just a kind of wispy nature to the engine burn - a lightness almost. I'm being stupid here but could you pls elaborate? Was the engine rev happy, can i assume it ran less noisy ?? Pl forgive me if i'm taking too much liberty in a...

Re: Kerosene as Motorcycle Fuel ?
^ as rightly said kero might not be attractive to diesel motorists or companies for the very same 'commercial' reasons. I'm trying to learn of any 'Technical issues restricting kero as a light CI fuel' Straight to the point- Kero is a lighter fuel, supposedly burns faster and goes good with compress...

Re: Kerosene as Motorcycle Fuel ?
As far i learn kerosene is closer in properties & characteristics to diesel but still didnt find any takers post early years 20th century. The early diesel motorcycle developers also did not seem to give kero a chance though they dosed with ether for easy starting even with fuel injected engine,...

Kerosene as Motorcycle Fuel ?
Why is kerosene not used as automotive fuel though its diesel's brother :?: Outboard marine engines, small aircraft engines and the more usual small electric generators & lawn mowers which run on kerosene even on these days. One thing specific & common to these are that they are fairly const...

Re: 3800RPM + ???
Excuse if this post isn't on same lines as the topic. I've read that in theory IDI engines rev more than DI engines, usually to 4.5k rpm levels. Any one know of such a single cyl engine which is (can be) put for motorcycle use ?
cheers..

Re: Spark Ignition Diesel - a better engine ?
..... So whilst it's possible to get a more civilised, lighter engine running on diesel, ... This is the sole point i thought to be of interest to guys here but sadly the terms performance & efficiency smoked it off. Seems most are content with the way industrial diesels are constituted & r...

Re: Spark Ignition Diesel - a better engine ?
A good read about Mazda's low CR SKYACTIV-D diesel engines here at http://www.greencarcongress.com/2011/08/skyactiv-20110804.html & scroll down to subtitle SKYACTIV-D. Though not of spark ignition type, the low CR is described pretty advantageous that it can form another topic of discussion

Re: Spark Ignition Diesel - a better engine ?
Interestingly this isn't new tech, Hesselman engines of 1920's used similar tech though the design was meant for reliability & longevity of oil engines. I read elsewhere that they employed very low CR ~6:1 which took a toll on output & emissions. The recent works i posted run CR ~12 which so...

Re: Spark Ignition Diesel - a better engine ?
hi XLerate , :) that my language is ok enough though i was hinting failure to convey the crux matter most times. Now to the topic, I agree that many of current diesels being light & reliable etc. But the single cylinder ones are much crude for motorcycles, partly owing to their industrial lineag...

Spark Ignition Diesel - a better engine ?
I've always liked diesel motorcycles especially the simple single barrel ones, they have a charm of their own mostly at cruise speeds. But at the same time i never have had the guts to own one for they scare me off with heavy vibes at idle & slow acceleration response. Is there a way to give the...

Re: Is anyone out there converting a petrol engine to diesel?
... It's the old 215 Cuyuna that powered ... yeah i missed, there's possibility of pimped up internals. I wonder what compression ratio it might be running since rest specs looks interesting apart from fact that its a 2 stroker. In theory if atomizing (here by injection), vaporizing (by glowplug ti...

Re: Is anyone out there converting a petrol engine to diesel?
Well :) a year after last comment in this thread here's something interesting from an SAE paper. Though converted to burn diesel it isn't of usual process but a combination of spark & compression ignition. Looks like base engine was 2 stroke with ~5:1 CR. from http://papers.sae.org/2003-01-0053/...
