My brother is looking to buy an Enfield Himalayan and wondered if I knew anybody who has one yet. If yes what are they like?

Re: Sommer DieselBike Rally

I ride a 1B40.... Exceeding the speed limit is a dream outside of the town centre 20mph areas!

I noted my updated GPS had the A and B routes down as 50mph. Lots of unmarked speed cameras in France now.

Taken the plunge and booked my return ticket. I will head out Sunday 15th and return on the 27th. I am taking my time over to Jochen's as I am on holiday! I am hoping to spend 3 nights around Thionville to visit The Maginot line Museum at Hackenberg. Should be at Geyern on the Friday and subject to ...

Re: Sommer DieselBike Rally

Hi Dave, I have not confirmed any dates with work yet so my planning is in the,"That would be a nice ride," stage. If it comes off for me, I would probably book out a couple of weeks and make it my big Sommer ride (See what I did there?) Running it as a 12 hour, "Iron Butt" conte...

Re: Starter Motor Gremlin...

I followed the advice and cleaned all the contacts around the starter motor and battery that I could find. I reseated using those serrated washers to make sure they were tight with lots of metal on metal bite. Last Thursday I took a ride over to France for the Le Mans 24Hr bike race. Pleased to say ...

Re: Starter Motor Gremlin...

Thanks for the input. My problem isn't that it doesn't work, It is that it randomly doesn't work and locks up all the electrics. The ignition switch is a standard German Herth and Buss sealed unit. I have been chatting to Jochen the builder and he has said these switches do not fail. Having built ov...

Re: Starter Motor Gremlin...

Hi Dave. My bike lives under its cover. But yes the ignition switch is pretty much inviting water in as it is fairly flat and open. I remember somebody at a rally saying he had an ignition switch problem due to water ingress.... not my Gremlin I think his lights shorted. I will have to pop out and s...

Re: Starter Motor Gremlin...

Thanks for the input. I have been away or the weather has been rubbish (No Garage) so just managed to dive in for a closer look. The Live cable to the motor and the Earth strap are both quite heavy duty about 7/8mm with well crimped terminals. they look sound. I have copper slipped their bolt points...

Starter Motor Gremlin...

I have a problem.... My Sommer has an electrical Gremlin lurking. I can't get my head around it and thought I would throw it out for ideas. My ignition switch is a two position, sprung car type. The first position fires up the lights and energises the fuel solenoid. The second sprung position engage...

Hi Dave, I missed it last year due to work. I have the dates on my calendar and have looked at the route from Dieppe, about 550 miles. Could be a nice week away if the weather holds up. There is a chance to ride through the Vosges National Park. Google maps will take you to the village where he now ...

Re: French Enfield, Diesel and vintage bike rally

Cheers Larry, I was asking about this event at The Big Knock but could not pin it down. I think the confusion was because of the Course Cote De Gascheney is on the 11-12th as well. This fits in nicely for me, so I am planning on taking the Newhaven-Dieppe ferry and then plod down that way before hea...

Another Sommer 462 rider is off for an exciting ride. Again, the site is in German but the photos are pretty interesting and Bing just about translates.

Enjoy!

Hi Stuart, I have taken that early boat a few times and have always felt shattered by lunchtime and in need of a good sleep. It ruins you for days! The last time I did it I rented a room at the Formula 1 up by the Hypermarket for about £30. No check in desk just use your booking card to get the door...
