Re: Hamm 2015
Cool,
Having spent all my cash getting old Sluggy back in fighting form it's going to be a cheaper option this year - Cross Channel Ferry and a 2 day ride across France, Belgium etc etc.
However I will be sporting my new trailer.

Re: Hamm 2015
What is the trailer? Have you checked with the ferry Co as when I went to Ireland I had a hell of a job. When you book on line the form gives you choices but the choices are written buy a computer geek and not buy someone that understands the law. All choices are expensive. In the end they let me on with no charge for a one wheel trailer.

Re: Hamm 2015
Sluggy will be pulling a trailer? Can't wait to see what you did to the old thing in person.
So I guess you wont be joining the ride to Hamm from the hook? Because I'm thinking of doing it again this year. Depending on animo of course.

Sam, as usual when the 'Computer says no', it's all down to negotiating with the bloke at the dockside...
Hopefully you have now set a precedent for all motorcycles so my single wheel trailer should travel free too.
Tetronator, my old riding chum; you are correct, no plush overnight crossing with cabin and meals for yours truly this time around. I'll have to join the 'common people' on the Calais vomitorium boat and chug myself across country.

Is it that bad? Because I was thinking of taking that boat to the Big Knock this year if I'm able.Tetronator, my old riding chum; you are correct, no plush overnight crossing with cabin and meals for yours truly this time around. Guess I should trow it out there that I will be organizing a ride from the Hook of Holland to Hamm trough back-roads if there's interest for it.
Shout out of you are interested!
Re: Hamm 2015 - 11 to 13 Sept
Interesting one for me this year. A few factors came together including that all critical signature from the wife on the travel request so I'm doing a bit of a tour on my way.
Plans are:
Sunday 6th, Essex to Reims
Monday 7th, Reims to Lac de Gerardmer
Tuesday 8th, Lac de Gerardmer to Innertkirchen
Wednesday 9th, Swiss Alps. Doing all the passes
Thursday 10th, Innertkirchen to Baden-Baden
Friday 11th, Baden-Baden to Hamm
Saturday 12th, Hamm to Hoek van Holland (will probably head off after ride out) for overnight ferry
Most of the above is taking in roads and routes that have been used in Ride magazine tours or recommendations from others. Cannot wait! Will be great to make the Hamm treffen too as I missed it last year.
Look forward to seeing everyone there.

Re: Hamm 2015 - 11 to 13 Sept
We are planning the usual two day ride over using the quieter N roads. Annoyingly the ferry leaves late & docks at Dieppe at 3.30am so we'll ride tired until sun up.

Hamm 2015 - 11 to 13 Sept
I'm not sure we've planned that far ahead Dave but it's pretty likely, yes. Mon's is a lovely place to stroll into of an evening. Nice, cobbled streets & cafe's etc. we use this site: http://www.europe-camping-guide.com/en/ ... naut/7255/
We didn't do Mons last year as we arrived too early, boat times having changed. We camped here first night: Opglabbeek Wilhelm Tell. Ferry time changes have changed a few things for us lately. Getting off the boat early is not so much fun either

Re: Hamm 2015 - 11 to 13 Sept
Hi Stuart,
I have taken that early boat a few times and have always felt shattered by lunchtime and in need of a good sleep. It ruins you for days!
The last time I did it I rented a room at the Formula 1 up by the Hypermarket for about £30. No check in desk just use your booking card to get the door codes. The boat arrived at 03:30 and I was under a duvet by 04:00.
Next day I was on the road for 09:30 after a coffee from the machine and had a good long days ride feeling great. Riding tired at night on the wrong side of the road is never fun!
Just a thought..... Ian
P.S Even tried booking a cabin onboard once.... late into the bed and they knock you up early to get the cabins ready for the return trip, expensive rubbish!

Re: Hamm 2015 - 11 to 13 Sept
I've had the delight of some serious travel planning over the last year and pretty much everything is in place for my trip down to the Swiss Alps then back through Germany via Hamm. All being well I'll arrive with a mate (a diesel bike virgin, be gentle with him please) Friday early afternoon and we'll (sadly) leave similar time next day, hopefully after the obligatory ride out. Safe riding all and see you there.

An update below for those not on Facebook / linked to Dieselkrad...
In short the German rally is taking on an alternative fuels theme this year and Zero motorcycles will be there with a couple of their bikes. We will also have a strong contender for the most distance travelled to the rally award* who'll be with us from the USA. It's going to be an epic rally and if you've not been before you'd be mad to miss it this year.
* Not a real thing, at least at the German rally
From Facebook...
We have a special guest visiting us this year along with Zero motorcycles will visit us in Hamm and bring two electric bikes will be available for test drives:
1. Zero SR http://www.zeromotorcycles.com/eu/zero-s-sr
2. Zero FX http://www.zeromotorcycles.com/eu/zero-fx
These will be available on the Saturday.

Re: Hamm 2015 - 11 to 13 Sept
Why is it always just before an event when the bike decides to play up?
A few years back it was the Tigers alternator:
Last year the Enfield pretty much gave up trying to be a motorcycle, and just now Sluggy's decided to eject oil all over my left leg.
Bollox to it, I've made up an oil deflector to direct the flow towards the chain from an old biscuit tin.

Now you really wont have to lube that chain of yours, or waterproof your pants for that matter.
Bringing a tin of oil for Sluggy then!

Re: Hamm 2015 - 11 to 13 Sept
Well the biscuit tin oil deflector performed faultlessly for the 800 mile trip, didn't even need to top up the oil.
It was the first real long trip for the Chinkie Yanmar electric start motor and it ran like a champ despite being loaded up with what seemed to be tons of camping gear.
My thanks to Willi for letting us use the venue and Rafi for the organisation and T - Shirt and of course everybody who made it to the event.
See y'all next year.
