Re: Direct belt drive
Hi I have a big lawnmower that is a walk behind, this has a double rotor blades and gearbox 4 gears + reverse. this has a clutch which is single V belt and jocky pulley. this mower is very powerful and will pull a trailer with me on it + 1/2 ton of sand. Just a point to remember the belt is a cotton...

Re: Could this be the start if Sluggy II?
Dave when you say your getting 80000 out of a primary chain isn't that in an oil bath? To answer your question there was only a cush drive in the back wheel. it was an XJ. Its the un oiled that throws alarms, also the firing order and if the bangs correspond with a certain chain position.

Re: Could this be the start if Sluggy II?
Just a word of warning , The Yam I built with the 750 ruggerini and the bsa gearbox was initially linked with a big chain admittedly not a duplex but it was a big one. The chain grew 6" in 500 miles. So experiment with the chain ratios but I would put money on you will have to change to belt or...

Re: MOT Exemption - Enfield Bullets; pre-1960 owners beware!
As this is likely to affect a lot of us in the UK, I would like to propose Dave as the go to guy for all matters concerning VHI. This is of coarse if he is prepared to take on the role? Then in the future if anybody has a query they can ask Dave. Likewise if anybody gains any knowledge on the subjec...

I think you mean toothed not cogged. Cogged refers to V belts that can go round small pulleys.

Re: MOT Exemption - Enfield Bullets; pre-1960 owners beware!
I wasn't aware of the still in production rule, but it surely would be referring to model? the name bullet is still in production but is not the same as the original, take the case of the Toyota corolla the most produced car, I think they are on MK 14, so nothing like MK1. Also you could argue royal...

Re: Crankcase to transmission conversion.
On a lot of 2 strokes the crankshaft drives the clutch via a gear, so the way I did mine was to replace the crankshaft with a straight shaft with the original gear on the end. all that is required is to cap off where the cylinders were the gasket is the perfect template. Remember to seal this up com...

Re: Crankcase to transmission conversion.
Everything is built to a spec, 50cc sounds on the weedy side, bear in mind your engine will give at least 26 ft/lbs, will the 50 cc cope with that? On the question of is it OK to tip up the gearbox, no problem mine has been running for 10 years. Just another tip don't link the two together with a ch...

Just as a matter of interest all Mk1 merc vito were fitted with a aux water heater and the vans only lasted a few years as they rusted like crazy, so I am betting the whole van can be picked up for next to nothing and the heater will have had next to no use.

Re: Rolling 40 year MOT exemption in the U.K.
Just a bit more of an update. A vehicle will generally be VHI ( vehicle of historic interest) if relevant changes were undertaken more than 30 years previously. This will be a rolling 30 years and replaces the fixed date previously proposed by DfT. Major points are, the process is one of self-declar...

Re: Final Drive Solutions for CVTech - 6.9:1 Reduction Needed!!!
Just a suggestion, as I don't have a cvt and no desire to have one. But from the ones I have seen with massive rear sprockets, it would seem the ratios needed are not quite right for the diesel engine. So just using my mechanical brain, If you have no gearbox you are likely to have a fair bit of spa...

Big Knock 2018 - 1st June weekend
Being as Britain is such a hostile climate for motorcycles for 6 months of the year, only the most hardy and nutters ride at this time of year. This means most things happen between April and September. My diary tends to get a bit busy in the middle of the year, so when anyone knows the date post it...

On the question of a tacho, why you would want to take the drive off the alternator is a bit of a mystery. There has been a load of rubbish talked about fitting a tacho, it is really so simple, all you need is a tacho off anything car or motorcycle that is electric not mechanical, fit a prox switch ...

Re: Parts Price machine appraisal.
Cant tell you exactly what you want to know, because I have never driven the enfield conversion. But been driving diesels for 10 years. The engine in the priceparts is 456 not 486 and I would take 13hp with a pinch of salt. That said most people driving on normal roads do 50mph, I know this because ...

Re: YanClone Stuck Injector
If your engine is a yanclone it should have a rubber plug in the valve cover, my suggestion would be to get the engine on induction stroke and add some oil to the rubber plug hole this will allow oil into the cylinder. much easier to exert pressure with liquid than air, still keep the hold down plat...

Yesterday did my fist run on my Kawasaki ZL400, got it from the scrap yard last year. In quite good condition and just missing wing mirrors, indicators and air box. Had an issue with the gearbox until I was told Kawasaki`s wont let you change up until you reach 6 mph. That's another story and took 2...

Dave on the spring starter, ages ago I did some investigation on this subject cant remember the company, eventually I got a price from them and the size was too big. If it has a normal alternator as in a smaller version that is in a car driven by a fan belt then the regulator is built into the alternator . usually just two wires come out 1 big fat one going to the battery pos. The other is smaller and goes to the tel tale light. This works by having a bulb fed f...

Re: VW Polo Diesel Engine & Gearbox to Goldwing Shaft Drive
Don't think that a big bike can take a big lump, the Honda GL 1000 is a low flat four, taking out the engine and gearbox will probably not give enough space for the VW unit with conventional clutch and gearbox, Have you given any thought as to how you will select the gears, operate the clutch ? Conv...
