Cleaning exhaust ports

I've got a lombardini engine which I've taken the cylinder heads off and there is heavy carbon buildup in the exhaust ports. Is this quite common with generator engines as they sit as the same rpm for long periods?

I don't want to go at it with some sharp implement and damage the aluminum underneath, and wire brushes aren't going to be able to reach half of the areas. Any tips on how to go about this or is it a job best left to an engineering shop/vapour blasters?

Sorry, only saw the thread now... BIO-DIESEL will help to loosen the carbon enough, so you can clean it off with a bit of wood.

Carbon build-up exceeding a certain level is not normal and you should start looking for the cause. Valvestem-seals are likely for example or simply worn rings.
