set back!

Post by buckles »

I spent all the winter months building my bike up for the summer when last week whilst going through a set of lights some twat t-boned me :( , mainly cosmetic damage, the folks are bent, tank split etc, but i have been lucky very very lucky. soon as all the aches have stopped and the swelling gone down its back into the garage, at least its not freezing cold :P

Sorry to hear that mate, hope them physical aches and pains go away real soon.

It's not a nice thing to get hit, some dic*head hit me head on back in 97 when I was a young fella, which relayed via a Police mate should have been a fatal, the near misses since then has made me wonder if I should be riding at all. At least the bike can be repaired/replaced - you cannot, so thank goodness your OK.

Spring is always a dangerous time. 4-wheeled motorists not anticipating bikes is unfortunately a recurring phenomenon. I almost got hit myself by one, that returned to the right lane after overtaking a truck, while I just got on the highway. Best of luck recovering.

Buckles - main thing is you're in one piece though really sorry to hear about the bike. At least you know exactly how it all goes together this time to be able to get it sorted.

If I had my way everyone would have to ride a bike for 12 months before being allowed to drive a car - that'd improve both driving standards and the understanding that not everyone is in some great tin box that protects them from idiocy!

Good luck getting it all fixed back up again.

Well for starters the sidecar is on the opposite side. Unless you just reversed an image. Nice work to fix a frustrating situation.

For the last few weekends I have been squirreling away in my garage and finally got the outfit through the MOT :D . I still have loads of work to finish off, but I'm so chuffed to be back on the road, when i smashed it up earlier this year i almost threw the towel in  but riding it this weekends has made up for all hard work.

Hi Buckles,
Good luck with the bike, throw some holy water on it and make a few incantations and get on the road again. By the way I,ve been pushing my diahatsu turbo dnepr pretty hard lately and managed to burst the rubber driveshaft donut. The outer metal ring tore apart and the whole lot disintegrated, I'm not sure it's quite up to the turbo power. If you'r going long distance you might want to carry a spare. Expensive from U2 cycles but cheap from ukraine but left waiting. I'm going carry a Ukranian spare.

Hi John, I may have a spare elastic band if you want it, I ditched all the Ural trans/drive for BMW, I would really like to go to HAMM this year, this job I'm on should be finished by the the first week in September so provided I can keep away from the boozer at weekends and and complete the outfit I'll be going :D. Do you buy spares from oldtimer, or ural zentrum? Andy.

Hi Buckles,
Oldtimer sells quality parts but at a price, I got my final drive gears from him and have no regrets (much better quality than Ural Zentrale). Ural Zentrale are good and have given me good service for non critical components(shims etcthat the others dont list),but postage is expensive. I have got parts from Arbalest(ebay) but dont be in a hurry(2-3 months) not her fault I think its customs, there is a language barrier so only order what she advertises or you WILL get the wrong part(I have 2 center stands and brake light switches and god knows what else. Don't be tempted to deal with Dneprworld (Uri) in US as he will take your money and you will recieve nothing (did me for €200.00 bastad). In conclusion I can honestly say that my bike is the most satisfying I've ever ridden, attracts crowds with millions of questions and makes a great day out. I got a new donut from U2 (approx £50 oouch) If you have a spare I'de gladly take it off you and pay postage etc to Dublin.

Hi Buckles,
Sorry to but in again but I notice you are using the drum brake on the front, eeeh its not good enough to stop this rig especially in the rain. I posted a simple disc brake conversion in the brakes section and think you should seriously consider something similar, makes riding in modern traffic at decent speeds safe (you will find out when you have the white knuckle experience). Happy Piloting

Hi John, I was talking to a friend the other day who asked if I was going to upgrade the front brake, I told him if I did I would ride it faster so whats the piont :shock, I know what you mean tho it is proper dodgy. I will have a look for the elastic band drive when I get home. Andy.

Hi John, found a couple of cush drives, one's off my bike an looks ok, the others off a basket case, there are cuts in it but only on the surface. £20 the pair, plus postage, they weigh about three kilo's. Cheers Andy.

Hi John, price for post to you is, £5.94, insured up to £41. £10.84, air save fully tracked, one cush drive works out a couple of quid cheaper in both options. If you want one of both I will try to catch the post before I set off for Hamm.
