Aixam 500 engine?
Hi there,
Have any of you come across this weird looking thing before?
http://uk.cars.yahoo.com/car-reviews/ca ... 02222.html
Uses a Kubota twin cylinder diesel engines on offer, which develop around 15 or 20bhp.
A useful engine for a project do you think?
Mike

And after simple parts removal Aixams will run over 100km/h. 80mph(?)
Covernor move is blocked with simple lever in order to keep it at legal speeds. Bolt it off and presto.
I had faint ideas of using engine+gearbox combination in my bike but importer didn´t want to sell me one, without chassis etc.
Now second project to be is to build trike for my Wife. She ordered one. But when... I´m looking after wrecked one with engine&gearbox combination still operating. Accidents do happen.

the aixam uses a kubota twin z600 series, and is a good motor, the box however is a constantly variable doodah and is prone to explode i believe.
would make a good donor for a bike, there are breakers that do reliants that also have aixam's, if your lucky you might get the sports version which is meant to be turbo'd.

Well picked up the engine at the weekend and looks good. Was surprised to find the box still attched. Added bonus if its a CVT, as was thinking of heading that way anyway after seeing Fiddler's creation, although not so good if it's prone to blow up! Any more details Dr.Pepper?
Shame it's not a turbo though - that would be quite a find...
Thanks for the advice Timppax, am tempted also to bore it out a little and skim off the head to boost the hp further.
Wahey! Off the starting blocks at last

hi there wrekin,i was running one of these cars a little while ago,a great little motor, how they rekon on that report that the build quality is only one ad a half is beyond me,these little motors have a n-cap rating of five, the mpg on this car i managed to get 90 mpg out of it,the performance is a little slow, but saying that they dont hang around for a little twin, top speed i got out of it was 60 mph,not bad for a diesel shopping trolley, hope this info helps you out,i hope to have the car on the road soon, cheers, paul.

Good find Sphere A Daihatsu Honda from Holland I'm guessing
Stuart. M1030M1, Honda NC700S, Grom!, Toyota Corolla 1.4 Turbo Diesel. Favouring MPG over MPH.

Re: Aixam 500 engine?
yep i had the loan of one of these a couple of years ago, great little car for the shopping trip,my mate bought it from guy in dartford, paid around 1,100 for it i think,£20 of diesel lasted about a month and a half,i was gettin 70 mpg out of it,wouldnt recommend dual carriageways, makes for scary driving, parts are reasonable and there are plenty of dealers, well worth a go,good luck.

Well, been away from here for a while, but as for the update on the enfield Kubota...
The engine is in the back of me van in Shropshire and I'm living in a yurt in someone's backgarden in Oxfordshire with the bike. So I haven't got very far! One day it will happen......

Good luck in that tent. Not a good season to be camping.
