The alternator on the Smart Diesel engine is right by the starter motor.
Is there any reason why the main alternator power lead cannot be connected to the main starter terminal actually on the starter, because after all, they are connected at the battery anyway
I’m thinking of it reducing the number of connections to the battery.
Thoughts anyone?
Regards

No problem with that, as long as the solenoid (starter relay) is on the starter. If it has a remote solenoid (relay), then no.
Many cars are wired this way.

No problem. The alternator isn't spinning fast enough at cranking speed to change the current flow. Once the starter is off, its just another wire terminal.

In the battery box 1 connection to ground and the + to input on a connection box mounted on the outside of the box ! Battery and primary connections covered and all other connections made in junction on the outside !

I thought of that. I am using a 200 amp isolator switch to do the same thinggearhead1951 wrote:In the battery box 1 connection to ground and the + to input on a connection box mounted on the outside of the box !
