Those who run open clutches?
I rode my diesel bike for the first time I'm a couple of weeks, and after a couple of miles my clutch was very stiff and Either the clutch started slipping.
It has been raining over the last week and I have realised it's probably the lubricant has been washed away! I will be pulling it apart and greasing everything again.
Has anybody had any similair experience?

Yes!
Bob Newby clutch by any chance?
Dump the crap open bearing clutches or you will have no end of adjustment and rebuilds.
It's a 1970's design, the real manufacturers changed the design years ago.
Look familiar?

This is the 3 spring version.
Note the bearing ring, this is worth buying if you do have a Newby clutch. It will stop the bearings bunching up and causing friction, ie clutch drag. Mind you, you'll still have to lube it up, over and over again.
I run an open clutch, but mine has enclosed bearings. A damn good clutch!

Re: Those who run open clutches?
It is a Villiers clutch. Can't remember the exact assembly it was from but I have since removed the open roller bearings and had the center turned out and used a sealed bearing in its place.
The problems I was having was from the first steel plate missing it's key hole. Which meant it didn't run concentrically.
All sorted now

I've had the BNR clutch off for re-greasing this week. Well, the toothed part is BNR but the back part is homemade and yes, I suspect those bearings bunch up. It's done 4 trips to Hamm & has to be greased up pretty regularly.
I need a sealed unit to slip in there!

Get a sealed bearing in there. I used a thin wall bearing and haven't had any problemsStuart wrote:I've had the BNR clutch off for re-greasing this week. Well it's been a while. If I had noticed the date of your first entry I probably wouldn't have said anything, as you would have no doubt, fixed the problem by now.alexanderfoti wrote:HehAnorak_ian wrote:Lol, I just noticed the date of your first entry.

Glad you used the term 'thin walled' as I'd never have found themalexanderfoti wrote:Get a sealed bearing in there. I used a thin wall bearing and haven't had any problems
