turning off a Yanmar clone

Post by wkoucky »

How do you shut down a Yanmar clone. I built a RE yanmar clone but the throttle is buried now. How do I shut the thing down?

You can use electrical or mechanical fuel turn off.

The electrical solution includes a fuel pump with a fuel stop solenoid valve. Priceparts at http://www.pricepartmotorcycles.co.uk sells it, but it consumes about 3 Amp during open fuel state. The advantage is to use the main switch key to operate in an "ignition off" manner.

The mechanical solution could be to reuse the decompression lever at the left hand RE handle, and add an extra fuel close mechanics at the throttle lever. I did it this way:

The stop lever forces the bottom engine fuel control lever to go from idle to fuel stop :)

Thanks. Do you have a picture that shows this mounted to the engine. I guess I would love to see how you connected this to the lever on the engine.

There is no mount on the engine. The fuel stop arm pushes the bottom engine fuel control back into stop position.

Henneberg:
Looks like a 1A class diesel build.

Wkoucky:

Its possible to buy injectionpumps with built in solenoid fuel shut off.
If however you choose to use some kind af fuelshut off,be sure there is nowhere between the injectionpump and the petcock / solenoid where air can enter the system, othervise u'll be f....d every time you use it, as air enters the system and prevents it to start again until you bleed the system

To prevent future regrets, do move the govenor spring, and attach it to a piece of pianowire, thus moving the ajustment "thingy's" up in the air, have a look at:

Ive done it simply because its much easier to make the most basic ajustments on my MZ, on the RE there's usually less space betw govenor setup and the gearbox than on my MZ and the layshaft setup

I have the fuel solenoid, but the downside is that it draws power, I measured mine at around 1.2amps, which is quite a lot when the stator only generates 3 amps!

Here's an option if you're looking for crude, complex and laborious.

Thanks. I rigged a lever and it worked. Not really pretty but it works. Thanks.
