Yes, the original flywheel is not attached, I am using the Dnepr flywheel/clutch basket at the other end of the crank.pietenpol2002 wrote:Is it an optical illusion, or are you running that without a flywheel?

Re: Yanmar dnepr project thread
probably to injection pump, as thats the only pump on these enginescoachgeo wrote:Are you refering to the Injection pump or the fuel pumpkapis wrote:but could worn out fuel pump do this?sbrumby wrote:White smoke 100% injection timeing too far retarded.

Hi, a little update
Hrm.. let the pics speak: fittings to hold the Vulcan front fork: Lots of space under the gas tank to fit 7Ah battery and regulator/rectifier: Accu box and regulator:
Fitting a Vulcan stator to the engine: Parts for the Vulcan generator rotor: Friend welding all the parts together: Engine and fan test assembly:

Re: Yanmar dnepr project thread
That really came together well! Where did you find the donor bike?
Re: Yanmar dnepr project thread
The frame, seat, gearbox and rear wheel is frm 1974 russian Dnepr.
The front fork, wheel, fender and brakes are from 1988 Kawasaki Vulcan 1500.
Handlebars are harley aftermarket, rear fender is from russian bike called IZ Jupiter (pic: http://static1.fotoalbum.ee/fotoalbum/1 ... 1eb0e3.jpg)
The Russian bikes and particularly Dneprs are really cheap here in Latvia, one can get running bike for 200$
Hope to finish the bike this weekend, and then will post a vid of it running
Cheers!

Re: Yanmar dnepr project thread
I re read your thread over the last few days mate and I'm very impressed you've done a fantastic job on that engine and transmission, the over-all style of the bike is really cool too can't wait to see some vids of it's test runs .
IGNORE THE RATTLE AND ENJOY THE RIDE
Re: Yanmar dnepr project thread
so, as I promised - here is the vid of the first test run : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L8VaJF5ocys (sorry for the low quality, the video was taken by phone).
Now the sad thing is that the engine ran very good last time i tried (here is the vid of the engine prior to mounting it on the bike: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jr9vdP77i_E&NR=1), but now it was very difficult to start and when started - the engine blowed white smoke, - then I removed the adjusting shim that comes under the high pressure pump, and now the engine starts good when warm , still very difficult to start when cold and the there is still some bluish/white smoke coming out from exhaust, but I can not advance ignition any more because there is no more shims to remove
maybe some of you had similar problems and can suggest what could be done to fix this? and what went wrong with the engine standing on the shelf?

Re: Yanmar dnepr project thread
kapis any updates so far? it's been a while from you posted last time
Re: Yanmar dnepr project thread
Unfortunately - NO. Bike now sits in workshops top shelf and collects dust but I am not done with it Now I am slowly modernizing my workshop - already got big mill and lathe and many other tools - I think that I will go other direction - I will take one piston/rod assembly from VW 1.6 litre engine, machine crankcase, head myself. I understand that this is a complex task but I have plenty of time

Re: Yanmar dnepr project thread
wow that's what I call ambitious! but what is the point of "inventing of bicycle" water cooling? eventually you get 400cc engine.
how much you drove on this yanamar engine ? (i mean in miles\kilometers).
p.s. maybe you speak russian? and thank you for replying, you're project is very interesting to me

Re: Yanmar dnepr project thread
Yes, I speak russian. The point is not the water cooling - I rather have it air cooled for simplicity. The main reason is the IDI layout witch gives me more rpm (closer to gasoline) and I thin that I can make it more compact but that is in my dreams right now - lets see how these thoughts evolve over time.
