Re: Overheating on motorway/fast roads
Reading other forums re Kubota engines. The consensus seems to be that 82 deg C is the norm. That also appears to be on the cool side according to forum members although the kit is mainly tractors and ride on mowers. You might not need to do much to keep the temperature lower than that on the bike....

High performance 1 cylinder kubota
I'm pretty sure this isn't fake. And the angle of filming doesn't show too much, and we don't have any specifics on mods to the engine. Buuut, it still looks like wild acceleration from a single cylinder kubota hopper cooled engine in a walking tractor. That kind of power would move a motorcycle... ...

Re: Weird compression test results!
So is the weirdness you're talking about the low compression on the front cylinder; dry and wet, followed by almost acceptable numbers on further tests? I would guess a sticking piston ring due to overheating, hence the abrupt change. The plugs from the front cylinder look like they have been runnin...

Re: insurance
Getting insured in Canada was a similar procedure except nobody asked questions. Bikes are either stock or modified. The fact that my modifications actually reduced the horsepower by 60% made no difference. So I'm now insured with the only company around here that will touch "modified motorcycl...

The right angle gearbox appears to me to be the differential from a quad. Of course if it's truly a differential then the builder would have had to weld it or otherwise lock it.

Re: chain life
I rode a dirt bike around the local gravel roads for thousands of miles when I was a teenager. I went through 3 chains. The first two we're non o-ring types. I attempted to keep them lubed With the expensive special chain lubricant I bought at the bike dealers for $20/can. Each chain cost $80 and I ...

My intake pipe is about 15" long and corrugated. And my exhaust, while unmuffled was built out of one of the original Honda twin wall pipes cut and rewelded poorly at angles. I know my some had to escape through a couple of joints that maybe have an area of 1 square inch. Probably part of my pr...

According to my ruggerini manual the md191 gets best bsfc at 2500rpm of 245g/kw/hr. My md151 is slightly worse at 260g/kw/hr at 3000rpm. I can run at 100kmh at 3300rpm in 5th gear or 2800rpm in 6th gear. I can pull 6th gear on the level our up slight hills with no wind. Anything more and I don't hav...

Re: Fuel Consumption Figures
The way I ride around here which is all highway at 100kmh or as close to that as I can get depending on the wind, had given me a low of 89mpg and a high of 92.5mpg over the last 1250km. This is with my 650cc ruggerini twin in a superdream. It seems a far cry from what most of you others are getting....

Re: Nifty potential ducati project
So it would seem that a ducati bike powered by a Ducati diesel engine would be interesting as a showpiece, but not too feasible as a bike to ride. I would be too afraid of not being able to find parts. Pity.

Re: Nifty potential ducati project
Which makes it that much harder to search for any Ducati diesel engines. Or is pretty hard to disambiguate the Ducati "Diesel" motorbike from a Ducati diesel engine. And then of course eBay Italia comes up with 502 pages of fiat ducato parts... Sheesh.

Re: Hunting Idle
Well, presumably the leak must be before the lift pump or you would be leaking fuel out rather than air in. My guess is that it is the gasket of the sediment bowl in your picture. Much harder to seal properly than the pipe or hose joints. Probably the lift pump produces enough suction against the th...

Re: What engine oil do you use?
My understanding is that the first number indicates the "weight" (really viscosity) of the oil at some cold temperature. The second number indicates the viscosity of the oil at a high temperature. That is, 5w30 oil acts like 5 weight oil when cold but like 30 weight oil when hot. Of course...

Re: New Videos of the Ruggerini Superdream (Hawk)
I would insert a pic of the bushing but my tapatalk doesn't like it very much. It is about 2" long and about 3mm wall thickness. It must be made of something soft because it rides around the hard shiny transmission shaft but within the aluminum clutch basket. And it is designed to allow movemen...

Re: What engine oil do you use?
Isn't a good oil supposed to be "thin" when it is cold and "thick" when it is hot? On the farm here we run 15w40 semi-syn in all the heavy diesels which either only run in the spring and summer or are in the heated shop. Everything else including automotive diesels get 0w30 semi-...

Hi erik . In 5th gear at 100 kmh I'm at about 3300rpm but when conditions are right I can run 100kmh in 6th gear at 2800. I messed up my math when buying my primary drive sprockets and ended up with taller gearing than I wanted but I think I will leave it alone. I like the option to loaf in top gear...

New Videos of the Ruggerini Superdream (Hawk)
So I finally got some video of the bike on the road. I've put a solid 2000km on the bike with no major failures, although the clutch throw-out bushing is going to be the weak spot. And I will need to get clutch assembly for my primary drive dynamically balanced, which will perhaps mitigate some of t...

Again I Will emphasize that I have exactly zero experience with diahatsu. But with vw the bolts are specifically one time use and they are vw part numbers although many aftermarket suppliers provide them. They aren't all that expensive. With the vw, tightening the head bolts is not done by torque. T...

Washing machine based bike
So all this electric bike talk really has me thinking. The big north American washing machines have motors that draw close to 1000w at full spin cycle. The have enough torque to get a tub of 2ft diameter half full of wet clothes moving. And they spin the tubs up to 1500rpm. Our dumps are full of the...

Re: Honda 750 with Kubota Z482
Hot fuel is less dense than cold fuel and injection pumps work by volume, not mass. I learned this when I noticed my tractors would lose power as the day progressed. On a hunch I installed a fuel cooler and it solved the problem. New tractors are made with fuel coolers. Having said that, it seems th...

Hey Mark, don't be scared by the diesel. Frankly, I find them easier to understand than gassers...the fuel and air dont need to mix before they go into the engine. I don't have any experience with your engine but I have had 4 mkii vw 1.6l diesels apart, and all of them had cracks between the valves ...

Re: Honda 750 with Kubota Z482
I thought your boti pumped the fuel through the filter? If it does, then the pressure at your filter head will likely be higher than the return pressure. If it is not, then the only problem I can foresee is that the fuel that just circulates through your injection system and right back to the fuel f...
