Re: High performance 1 cylinder kubota
Well, if you wondered what South-East Asian rednecks race.. there ya go... Heavy diesel engine, tiny little wheels, belt drive.. what's not to like? There's quite a bit of this going on in Thailand and Laos. The engines are industrial-spec and leave quite a bit of room for tuning. These engines are ...

Re: VW automatic trans?
True, a CVT would solve a lot of those issues. I'd want to use a car engine though, and a cheapy at that. Smart engines/transmissions are out of my budget. Perhaps something like a Fiat 'selecta' CVT could be mated to a diesel engine..

Re: VW automatic trans?
An h-pattern shifter seems like a PITA. Plus you'd have to deal with the heavy car clutch. I don't care much for a foot-clutch on a motorcycle..

VW automatic trans?
How feasible would it be to use a VW diesel engine with an automatic transmission? The engines are plentiful, and although not many diesels were fitted with auto boxes this isn't really a problem - VAG loves to use engine architectures for both diesel and petrol engines. You could always it an auto ...

Re: Engine weights?
I found there are more 1.9 VW diesels aroudn here than 1.6s.. I believe the VW 1.9 also came in a N/A version, right?

Engine weights?
Does anyone have a list of weights for diesel engines commonly found in cars? Looking at a local auction site, these are the most frequent cheap(ish) diesel cars in my area: Volkswagen 1.9 Opel/Vauxhal 1.7 Alfa Romeo/Fiat 1.9 Peugeot/Citroen 1.9 Kia 2.9 Chrysler 2.5 I know the VW has been used a lot...

Re: Supersized bike transmission?
Hah! I knew there'd be someone out there who tried it on a motorized bicycle. I think a decent quality hub can stand up to the power of maybe 3 horsepower or so. The components wouldn't have to be enormous to deal with a small diesel engine..

Supersized bike transmission?
I was just fixing an old 3-speed bicycle hub and it got me wondering if it could be supersized. The idea is simple enough - just a planetary gear set and a selector really. I know gears of all sorts and sizes can be purchased form industrial dealers. It would probably be pretty heave, but I don't se...

Re: Anyone used a Lombardini 11LD522?
Ohhh, missed the weight somehow.. it's awefully heavy. Somehow I was under the impression the weight was similar to the KDW1003 engine, but it's nearly twice as heavy.. well, that settles that question then, I suppose..

Anyone used a Lombardini 11LD522?
Lombardini 11LD 522 Spec Sheet Has anyone used a Lombardini 11LD series engine? The 522 seems like a nice lump for a motorcycle conversion. Air-cooled, so no extra plumbing.. 3 cyls, 1.6l and well over 30Hp. I don't think I have seen anyone using one of these. What are your guys' thoughts on this e...

Re: Would ths work at all?
Centrifugal clutch is different though..no forward creep when you release the brakes. Not unless you apply more throttle, anyway. And I don't think they make centrifugal clutches strong enough to be used on a car engine.. I'm just thinking of getting a RWD diesel vehicle with an automatic transmissi...

Would ths work at all?
Just an idea I've had recently.. I have no idea if this is even remotely feasible, so I'm hoping to get some input from you guys.. How about starting with an automotive diesel engine, forget about a transmission altogether and just use a torque converter off an automatic transmission, coupled to eit...

Re: Hello everyone! (akumabito - Joost)
I love Nanko's bike! It seems to be about as practical a diesel motorcycle could be (on a modest budget at least). It has a reliable engine, decent top speed, superb fuel economy, etc. Definitely a great inspiration. I actually tried to contact him on YouTube some time ago. I would really like to kn...

Hello everyone! (akumabito - Joost)
Hi there! I'm new to the dieselbike phenomenon. I've read a few articles on diesel motorcycles some time ago, and just love the DIY mentality of the diesel community. Then when I came across this video on YouTube, I just knew this would be the sort of setup for me - a Moto Guzzi with a Chinese-made ...
