Honda Cb750/Hatz 2g40 Project Bike for sale (Oregon, USA)

Hello everyone, After a long hiatus, I've got to part with my diesel bike project (see progress reports here: https://www.dieselbikeforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=2654&start=30&sid=ef41587eee0f7ed65c8ac7c39d7014c9) . I'm moving across the country to a tiny apartment, so the diesel will h...

Re: HondaCB+Hatz Scrambler project

Alright. Minor setback - vibrated the jackshaft out of its bearings! whoops! Gotta tighten those down. Good news is I think the oil leak is fixed (loose oil pressure switch), and she starts up great! The current major issue is that fuel solenoid - all the crappy batteries I have lying around just ar...

Do you have a picture of the front end? I'd love to see how that truck light looks as the headlight! Looking good!

Re: HondaCB+Hatz Scrambler project

You can minimize the current with a resistor in serie with the solenoid. The holding voltage/current when the valve is already open is much lower. Check with a variable voltage powersupply at which voltage the solenoid closes. To be sure it stays open even if the the batteryvoltage is a bit lower, ...

Re: HondaCB+Hatz Scrambler project

Thankfully the laws are pretty lax here if i've got it all right. I do understand the appeal of the tap, but I'd definitely like to rig something up to a handlebar control. The solenoid shuts down the engine very nicely, so I figure with my luck, it'd be nice to keep that shutoff capability within a...

Alright - long delay, but I've been busy. All the major pieces are in place - here's proof! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BjNT1qur1U4X Hope y'all enjoy! Didn't quite get to the video before dark - I'll have to get a better video in a bit in the daylight. Still plenty of plenty of work to do. Found...

Re: One for Tim

Not sure if this will help, or if you guys already know this stuff. I started with Solidworks, and then moved to sketchup now that I'm out of school and poor. SketchUp ends up being ok for 3D printing, but it has a similar learning curve to Solidworks. The difference is Solidworks ends up making the...

Re: Donor bike suggestions and aixam CVT questions.

Not exactly sure how much room you're looking for, but the CB750 i'm working on has had plenty of room - minimal frame mods needed. Are you going to hang the CVT off the side of the bike?

Hell yes! I've got some logo ideas for the HATZDA. Might just have to print up a keyring myself - my buddy here recently got one, and is always itching to "practice" with it.

Hey! I was wondering what your LED main light is - been looking around and having trouble figuring out what to use - I've heard a lot of bad things about the current LED main lights out there.

Re: Peltier/Seebeck chips to supplement a tiny alternator

I have a little bit of experience with thermoelectric generation (or rather I have colleagues that do). It sounds like they really wouldn't be robust enough to use on an exhaust - the temperatures involved vary too much, and would most likely end up damaging the unit.

Belt Angles - do they matter?

So - quick question that I haven't figured out yet (and haven't figured out if it actually matters either) - Different cvt belts have different side angles. For my application (94c+90d Comet), the angles seemed to be in the 25-30 degree range. From some shoddy quick research, it seems like at least ...

Re: HondaCB+Hatz Scrambler project

Alright. Chugging along! Had some difficulty with the different duster clutch models, but I finally got that sorted out, and the correct (I hope) adjustable one is in my possession. Right now I'm working on the jackshaft and engine mount welds, which are somewhat daunting for a newish welder like my...

Re: HondaCB+Hatz Scrambler project

Actually, if anyone is interested, the plating is all scrap from various other cool projects around here - engine plate is from an old wheelchair lift for some sort of bus or car I think, and the jack shaft plating is from some huge old custom gas tanks from an old Willys, which has since had its ga...

Re: HondaCB+Hatz Scrambler project

Yup! plating seems a bit thin to me as well, but it's what I got lying around the shop. I'm going to get everything in place first, and then add bracing wherever possible. FWIW, the guru who's advising me seems to be totally unworried about it. We'll see what happens! Just finished up releveling and...

Re: HondaCB+Hatz Scrambler project

Alright - here's the progress with pics so far! P3210936.jpg I got the engine baseplate tacked on before - it still needs some adjusting to get the motor in place and lined up correctly. It's just tacked on for now while I figure that out (currently working on that). You can also see what I did just...

Re: CVT Belt size calculation

Yeah - no worries! I definitely agree with the terminology - always just easier to go with simpler language in the end. This formula, coupled with this website http://www.daycoproducts.com/online-catalog-1?part_type=50 really helped me - it took a while to dredge up the combo online, so I hope this ...

Re: CVT Belt size calculation

Alright. I'm just going to talk to myself a bit here, because on 2nd look, there are some issues with the description I found here. For D1 - the diameter of the drive pulley - I'm getting confused on which diameter it means. Originally I thought it meant the outside diameter of the entire pulley - j...

CVT Belt size calculation

Hey - I've been wandering around the corners of the internet, and came across this on a golf-cart modding forum. I'd make some comment about weird hobbies, but that's a bit of pot and kettle here  But I thought I'd put it up here - it makes sense to me, but I wonder if any of our more experienc...

Alright - life has been busy, but I've got a couple hours on the train to update you all on where I'm at. Internet isn't good to upload pics - but those'll come soon. Re: HondaCB+Hatz Scrambler project

Yeah, thankfully the engine has a nice eyebolt up top at the CofG for moving purposes, so the engine is both easy to move, and the CofG is very obvious. It's definitely a lot closer to the flywheel side than the power out side. Heading home from a nice weekend up in the Olympic mountains in Washingt...

Good to know. I do have enough weight that I want it to be pretty centered, but if it turns out it's a centimeter one way or the other, I'll try not to worry too much :P :P
Looks like the CVT stuff is coming early next week, so I'm pretty stoked for next week/weekend!

Re: HondaCB+Hatz Scrambler project

Can I give you a word of advice. Before you mount the engine get your rear pulley mounted and make sure it clears everything in the fully open position. Include any brackets and footpegs. The reasoning is that the rear pulley will determine alignment of the engine. I fitted a cvt to mine and it was...

Re: HondaCB+Hatz Scrambler project

Well, not much more progress to report, but I did get the bike moved in to the shop. Started taking off extraneous pieces (That was a big clunky air intake!), and the hatz is starting to look like a respectable motorcycle engine! Got the bike propped up a bit, and the motor tilted on its frame, and ...

Re: HondaCB+Hatz Scrambler project

Alright! So I have a cardboard mockup I made last week, but I didn't see it around the shop this morning when I came back, so I hope it's still around. It's not that accurate, so we'll see how much help it actually ends up being. Maybe the shop guys threw it away out of pity? Hahaha. Better news is ...
