Engine numbers

Post by Crazymanneil »

I've read that engine numbers are no longer required in Germany, can anyone confirm? The engine I have does not seem to have a number (from the factory that way) since it is from a German car. Where the engine is made for a country that requires it the number is normally stamped into the starter mounting but theres nothing there on mine.

It's not on the clutch housing, at the far left of the engine?

Sphere,

I think I know where you mean. I just did another search and can't find where the heck I read about engine numbers no longer being used. Did I dream it or something? I think I'll go have another long look at the engine

I don't have a first clue about smart engines, I just read this hint on the web. I also read that it isn't actually stamped, but printed by laser, hence can be difficult to read. Hope it helps :)

Hey I found the thing! It was under a layer of grime below the clutch housing, lasered as you mentioned. Took some white sprits and a lot of elbow grease to bring it up to where I could read it!
