Supercharging

Post by Diesel Dave »

Hey Heiko, thanks for posting and I'm impressed with the performance of the non-supercharged version (thankfully).

Did you make any changes to the fuel settings of the Supercharged version?

I suspect that an intercooler may be required to get the most out of the blower setup, from my experience of a Land Rover turbocharging I was very dissapointed with the output from a TD4 unit and wanted to fit a bigger turbo. A bigger intercooler was suggested instead and it did make a huge difference - it was also a lot easier to fit.

Did you have any space for a 'plenum chamber' between the blower and the intake manifold - basically this is like a holding tank for the pressurised air and acts like a resevoir waiting for the intake valve to open. The smaller the chamber volume the higher the variance of pressure will be in the intake, in simple terms if the intake volume is 100cc and the cylinder volume is 300cc then to get a cylinder pressure of 1.5 atm you will need to pressurise the intake to 4.5 atm (this is all theoretical so in practical terms lesser volumes work because the blower is still pushing air during the intake valve open time).

I have a small turbo you might be interested in - I'll bring it along with me on Thursday - there's always the next build :D

cheers
Dave
