7 hp 350cc hatz 1b30, new

cvt tranny, not sure what kind, everyone says go with comet, but if there is a reason i SHOULDNT go with cvt and get something that shifts, please tell me

and use one of these as a base, as LEAST frame wise

its a derbi, i figure i will get something around 250-300 lbs on road with the 1b30, and im only 150 lbs, so it should be fine for 50-60 mph, and get me roughly 150-175 mpg.....

what do you guys think?

Take a look at the following link. They used a YANMAR L100AE, which is rated at 9 hp continuous at 3600 rpm and a Comet CVT, which seems to be a good match for a Diesel engine. They are getting a top speed of about 40 mph as far as I've read, but that could have to do with gear ratio and proper tuning of the CVT. 9 hp gets you about 50 to 55 cruising and 60 max on average.

You'll never see 55-60 with a 7 hp engine. I built a little bobber last year with a 6hp in it. Very lightweight, in a rigid frame, best I've EVER got out of it was just under 40 mph.
Also, you're going to have to do a MAJOR rework on that frame to fit a diesel in there.

shucks, i guess ill have to go 10hp, its just that the 1b30s are so cheap. i wasnt planning on putting INSIDE the frame, but just modifying it so it will bolt hold it, im not concerned with aesthetics at all.

Chassis?

Post by LocomotiveBreath »

I think the chassis you want to use is a poor choice unless you can weld aluminum. I see extencive frame mods to use this chassis. The engine is a lot bigger and your center distances between your CVT and drive pulley will be in the area of 8"-10.5".

Just my 2¢ worth,
Good luck,
Dave

You're doing great. Trying all sort of stuff is what this forum is based on.

Let's face it, if we never tried something new, this place wouldn't exist!

Certainly will be an eye turner :D ! Will have the frame and suspension to virtually go anywhere, and with the reliability of the Diesel Engine.

Great job = Keep up the great work.

Cheers
