BMW twin converted to diesel

Post by gearhead1951 »

There is a discussion going on about converting petrol engines to diesel on this site that I where I suggested that a BMW would be a good candidate for that procedure !

Lo and behold one has shown up on here (1 pic and little info ) that used a set of Hatz heads and an unspecified german pump ! Any one got any further info on that creation ??

I did see it in the flesh and a grand job has been made of the conversion, no more details though; sorry.

Definitely doable. IDI engines with a swirl chamber can use flat-top pistons.
I'd be worried about sufficient bearing surface area, rod strength and flywheel weight.

Interesting thing about using the lighter gasser parts would be limiting low end torque and letting it revv above the normal 3600-4500rpm limit of typical IDI engines.

Not much detail from me either, language being the barrier as always. Did hear bores were Nikasiled though.
