Winsun, Punsun Reliablity? Availability?
I have heard from some that the Winsun, Punsun, Carroll Stream, etc twin cylinder air-cooled 20-25 hp diesel's are unreliable. Specifically, crank and crank bearing problems. If I build another diesel bike I would like it to be stone reliable. Is there a place in the middle of America to get them?

If possible, go for a Yanmar or one of the Italian engines such as a Ruggerini or Lombardini. You've more chance of reliable running from them just by some reports.
Look through the rally reports to see what the longest running bikes are using. Hatz is another reliable make.
Hope that helps.

He is in US. Ruggerini and Lombardini are rare as hell here. Hatz not as bad but still........ rare. In fact name brand twin air cooled diesels are rare as hell here too and you pay an additional premium compared to yall on the other side of the pond cause of the rarity.Stuart wrote:If possible, go for a Yanmar or one of the Italian engines such as a Ruggerini or Lombardini. Re: Winsun, Punsun Reliablity? Availability?
I just got a shipment of Winsun 13hp and vtwin 22 hp engines.
They're listed on my website a1biofuel.net at very reasonable prices.
About reliability .....
Two years ago there was a problem with broken cranks.
That was due to irregular steel quality and improper hardening
processes. Winsun has changed crank suppliers and gone up one
grade of steel. They assure me the problems are fixed. Winsun is the
only vtwin supplier that has redesigned their engines to meet usa
epa tier 4 regulations. Others claim to be certified .... but when the
engines arrive there is no epa sticker on them. Winsun is the only
china vtwin legally available in the usa.
About costs ..... consider that a china vtwin is available at $1500
delivered ..... all other manufacturers are 3 to 4 times that price.
That is a substancial difference in price. China is constantly improving
their quality and Winsun is leading the way. I am proud to be able to
offer the usa public Winsun's newly redesigned engines.

It's good to hear their products are improving I guess a motorcycle is a pretty testing place to put a pump engine.
I guess we should check manufactured dates from now on.
