For some time now my small bike has had a anoying leak comeing from the rack shaft. So today I thought I would investigate
Took of the primary belts and pulleys, took off the drive side of the engine,Quite surprised how easilly it comes to bits. I was expecting a big gasket but it is a metal gasket so comes off perfect. Lifted off the injector pump so i could move the shaft backwards. to do this you have to knock out the taper pin that holds the outside lever on. There is a plastic shaped washer that fits on the shaft and just into the case inside this there was an O ring this griped the shaft but not the case, so i pressumed the wrong one had been fitted. I had a hard job of getting the correct size as most that fit the shaft are small in section and dont fit the hole. The one I got fitted both but when you put the shaped washer back the whole thing gets too tight so I filed some off the washer. One the engine side of this shaft I can see with a mirror is a small bearing. Anyway only time will tell if i have cured the leak. The engine is very simple inside, the crank drives the balance shaft to the left and the camshaft to the right. the camshaft also drives the govenor plastic gear which is also connected to the oil pump. The whole job took about 3 hours.

Re: Oil leak on yanmar L60
Just a quick update, still got a small oil leak out of the shaft. Been on the online parts list. and unusually the L60 seems to have a bush and yet the L100 seems to have an oil seal. Anyone got any knowledge who to ask about this problem?

I have spoken to them about technical issues on these engines, and have used them for spares in the past, very good.
