Andrew McGarity RIP
Guys, it is with great sadness I have to announce the passing of Andrew McGarity (Andrewaust), friend, Moderator and Dieselbike builder & pioneer in his native Australia. His friends are posting RIP messages so I am passing this news on and offer my sincerest condolences to his family and friends.
I am proposing that Andrew's name will remain up here as Moderator for a while yet as a tribute to his work on the forum (now removed).
This years UK Dieselbike rally will also be dedicated to Andrew, a guy who was always willing to help others and give advice.

What a tragedy. Far too young by anyone's standards. My condolences to those he loved, and those who loved him. RIP Andrew

Re: Andrew McGarity RIP
I was told this morning that Andrew died on the 23rd May by his own hand after battling depression & a long illness made wore by hospital blunders (his words). From emails received I know it wasn't easy for him towards the end but always encouraged him to fight on. I'm sure he'll be with us in spirit at this years events. Andrew, you shall be remembered as an Australian Pioneer, realising the future & building your very own Diesel Motorcycle.
RIP Andrew.
RIP Andrew.

Re: Andrew McGarity RIP
A lovely guy for whom it was never too much trouble to help out anyone he could. He took time and effort to help me through a few bike issues and help me understand how my bike worked when I first got it. I was far from the only one he took time to write to and help out and he certainly didn't have to spend his time doing so, but he was always happy to.
His passing is a loss to the forum and the wider diesel biking fraternity and I'm really sorry to hear the news

Thanks for the update Adam.
Re: Andrew McGarity RIP
Hello Adam,
Whilst "based" in the UK this is a genuinely global forum and Andrew had made many contacts and friends worldwide through here (including many who are only here very infrequently and won't have seen the sad news yet). There were a couple of Aussies on here but knowing how big your country is you'll be lucky if anyone can make it over to the funeral I guess. What you could do though (and I hope I speak for all here) is pass on that as far as we're all concerned he was well known, well loved and regarded as a great guy who would always help anyone out - and will be very sorely missed.
It's the UK rally this weekend and whilst it is Stuart's rally and he's the organiser I have no doubt we'll all be having a quiet moment and a drink for Andrew at some point.
Hope all goes well on the 4th.
Dan

Re: Andrew McGarity RIP
Hi everyone
To introduce myself, I'm a light vehicle motor mechanic and RTA examiner. I inspect vehicles for annual roadworthyness and to establish registration for modified vehicles. That is how I met Andrew. I'm very interested in motor vehicles and motor cycles and enjoy all forms of modification, which I know are things Andrew also enjoyed.
Andrew approached me to inspect his diesel Enfield for registration. When I first saw his Enfield (he called it "Chuggy") I knew that he was talented and had the capacity to think "outside the square". We joked about the fact that if anyone had to ask why he had a diesel engine inside a motor cycle, they just didn't get it.
I felt we made a connection due to what I considered to be mutual respect of one another's modified vehicles.
I have only recently learned of Andrew's passing, and whilst I wouldn't consider myself a close friend, Andrew certainly made an impact on me. I consider myself privileged to have know him.
I would like to let this community know, my experience with Andrew over the years has shown him to be one of nature's gentlemen. He was always happy to chat and had a smile on his face. I will sincerly miss him and want to pay my respects to his family and friends.
Such a sad loss of a very talented and genuine man.

Re: Andrew McGarity RIP
Thanks Murdoch. I spoke with Andrew several times and his presence here on the forum is greatly missed. He was always willing to offer advice and that really meant something coming from a guy who'd built his own diesel motorcycle.
It's nice to hear that his influence is still felt, both here on the forum & down under.
