Where to Purchase Engines Online

Hello everyone!

Where do you suggest for purchasing diesel engines online suitable for bikes? I'm looking for speed but also durability and preferably in the 600 - 1000cc market.

I guess it's always best to see stuff before you buy but saying that I ordered my Smart engine from a breakers over the phone. But it was a newish engine at the time so little chance of getter a duffer!

Try for an automotive engine if you can - you'll like the extra revs Failing that, a 20hp twin with 360 crank (lot less vibes) would be the minimum I'd go for personally.

Hmm, I'm not convinced that a 360 degree twin is the way to go - the MD150 that I bought for a project is pretty smooth from 1000 to 3000 RPM, and that's a 180 degree twin.

The 180 degree twin does have a rocking couple that the 360 doesn't have, and the power pulse is more of a big bang, but you don't get the vertical vibrations of a 360, and you get the least pumping losses that a twin can have.

My mistake - 180 crank is what you need. What was I thinking??

Sometimes you can get a good engine from eBay, but! check it out if you can before purchase, down where I am finding small diesels locally is just about non existent, depends on your location.

I was lucky in that the Smart hadn't done many miles at all before it ended up at the breakers. I was looking at the accelerator pedal which came with it and it's hardly marked at all. Maybe there was a cover on it? Anyhow, good indication of very few miles.

Thanks guys. Still looking for some suggestions of online stores or what have you. The Smart engine is something I was considering, but good luck finding that in Canada

Have any of you heard of any 1 - 2 hp diesel small engines? I'm now also thinking of undertaking a diesel chainsaw project

Here's my favorite in the link below (the one on the left). Now back in production, the Seidel 7-35 compression ignition radial rated at 2 hp. Yea I know, not very realistic. But could there be anything cooler sounding than a 7 cylinder radial diesel chainsaw.
