Hi Nanko

Looks like things are coming along really well. Now who said you couldn't fit a 4cyl diesel in a bike frame? That is going to give you all the torque and power you need. What sort of gear ratio's are you running? guess it will be very tall.

Another great diesel bike project nearing completion.

Cheers

Hi Andrew

I am using a 850T3 gearbox and Hydro convert final drive
With this combination the bike runs 120 km/h at ~3100 rpm
theroretical top speed ~190 km/h

Nanko,
That's gonna be one kick-ass bike!!! How'd you figure out a way to adapt the engine to transmission?

Hi Chris , simply by mounting the GUZZI flywheel on the PEUGEOT engine .
Now the original guzzi clutch can be used and also the starter motor can stay in the same place.
Started with the gas tank today , chopped the lowerpart from the original tank ( that hurts ! )
With a new bottom I still have appr. 17 liters fuel capacity left.

Nanko,
I'd never thought of mounting the guzzi flywheel to another engine. Figured every engine requires a flywheel designed for it.....goes to show you how one can get tunnel vision (in my case) over the years.

Hi Cris
Ofcourse every engine needs a specific flywheel , and I am not sure at all if the GUZZI flywheel is heavy enough to let the diesel run well at 1000 rpm
But there is space on the circumference for some extra kilo's

Looks like a 1529cc Pug/Cit TUD5 Iron block, that correct? What you hook it out of? Lucas/CAV pump? How did you get the gearbox to bolt up? I have built tons of these engines in the past, mainly in AX's - great motor save for alloy block troubles (and on the iron the poor oil sealing on the no1 cyl end causing oil leaks between block and head).

Great stuff, 50-60hp should do good! Though with a torque converter if I understand correct it will dump a load of diesel into heat and mute your mph/mpg, unless your converter has lockup.

Hi Greg
It is a TUD5 , with a BOSCH pump, and the engine came from a CIT. SAXO.
I know its bigger brother TUD7-9 occasionally has a oil leaking head gasket , I was not aware the TUD5 has the same habit :-(
The gearbox is attached with a 15 mm alu. flange at the engine and 8 spacers between flange an GUZZI gearbox.
Later these spacers will be replaced by a alu. ring to make it more or less water/dirt proof.
My fist idea was using the GUZZI hydro covert torque converter , but (top) speed would have been 140km/h @ 5000 rpm.
With the 850 T3 gearbox and hydro convert final drive I will get 120km/h @ 3100 rpm

Bike had its first test drive , and I am very happy with the result.
Lots of bottompower , very quiet engine even without sillencer.
Next step is getting the bike properly registered .

Nanko,
I too have just watched the video and it is very impressive :D
That bike has a good turn of speed :!:
It would be good to see it in Hamm this year if you get it registered in time.

Stuart , I will be there anyway , with or without the dieselbike .
Hamm is only 200 km from where I live , would be great to see all these bikes and meet their owners!

Nanko,
Really nice job on the bike!!! Just goes to prove that diesels are hard to beat.

Why can't the bike industry give us this technology?????
