Hi all,
Anyone have any experience or thoughts with using an Enfield 5 speed on a dirt bike? I'm building a KX500 for trail riding using a yanmar l100 clone. Top speed isn't as important as being able to climb. Do able or a dumb idea?
Thanks!

I doubt it will have quite enough torque for off road work. And a bigger twin will be way too heavy. I might be wrong though.

I suspect your right. I know I'm taking a huge hit on horse power with the diesel. Stock the kx500 runs around 59 hp! My target top speed is only about 30 mph (50 km/h). I'm thinking I'll drop the chain ratio until I get something usable. Maybe a 14 tooth on the output. This would give me a top speed around 35 mph flat out.

If you were flexible on what egine you used you may succeed. I've heard there are some large singles out there that give possibly 15hp? But again heavy!
