Hamm 2011 9th-11th Sept

Post by Stuart »

I'll start this thread now to help those who may want to ride out together. We normally get the 8am Newhaven ferry Wednesday but may well go earlier this year.

With luck I will see you there, although i am again taking the scenic route. Not Via Poland this year but Peenemunde (which is at least two miles from Poland :) ). To see the V1 V2 and V4 rocket developments.

My brother and I will be travelling to Hamm with mouse this year :D Mini holiday for us as usual so we'll be departing these shores on the 6th Sept from Newhaven. All three of us are booked onto the 9.30am Transmanche/LD Line boat. £73 return.
Mouse will be returning earlier because of his birthday bash in Stafford the weekend after Hamm. We are booked to jump the 16th Sept (Friday) Ferry at 6pm.
See you there 8)

Have had change of plan due to ongoing bike problems. Will be going via Rheinfalls in Switzerland and expect to arrive late Thursday or sometime Friday.

On the eve, well weekend, before a big ride the battery decides to go bad.
Looks like Monday AM will be frantically sorting a replacement.

Neil has delivered my Smart Turbo Tiger and we've sent the weekend adjusting it for myself and fitting pannier frames etc. After putting aces miles on it earlier I will do so again tomorrow with loaded panniers to get a feel for how it handles. Going to try and tax it in the morning too.

9.30am ferry Tuesday from Newhaven :D

I'm sorry to say I can't make it either

I have been working on my bike getting the new exhaust system bent and welded up, and finally finished it late last night. Now I find that the replacement KTM reg rec that I bought off eBay doesn't work, it may be duff or only works with KTM bikes, anyhow that's three reg recs in a row that I've had no luck with.
I have fitted an old half working reg that produces power to the lighting circuit only, I have wired this for battery charging and decided to kick the bike over to save the battery juice.
I was prepared to take the gamble that it would get me to Hamm and back as I really want to go, but now there are family needs that I can't get out of

Maybe one year this century I may actually get there.

We've just arrived at Willys place and are enjoying the first free beer :D
Quite an eventful trip out what with Russells battery needing to be replaced & my tent and waterproofs being slashed by a knife wielding burglar in Péronne :D Weather too was the worse kind for riding in but we're here now! Maybe less from me as regards info as I have low phone battery.

Smart Tiger was excellent on the open road. Just lurve riding that Turbo rush 8)
Other riders here are Matt & The Prof.

Many thanks to Rafael for organising another great rally :D A rather more eventful ride to Hamm than I would have liked but it was well worth the journey :D
Didn't make many notes this year but I'll try & post a brief report & pictures soon!
Riding the Tiger over was awesome - it was made for those kind of trips.
