New Diesel Motorcycle Engine being tested

Post by Stuart »

Rafael just posted me this. Very interesting don't you think? Is this what we've been waiting for?

An engine designed specifically for motorcycles could be very interesting.

I wonder if a prechamber engine could meet emissions standards. If so, a 5000 RPM power peak is doable, and 18 hp is realistic. (Direct injection needs very high cetane fuels to do high RPM, and swirl chamber isn't as good as prechamber at that.)

Interesting to note the reference in the one article to the engine being "over" 400cc. Could it be 406cc? There are plenty of companies in India building the 406cc Yanmar clone. And any number of individuals on this board can attest to the compatibility of the Yanmar clone and the venerable Enfield (as RE has reportedly expressed interest in collaborating with the same engine supplier) . One would hope it's a bit more refined.

Curiously, the engine supplier is based in Chennai where Greaves maintains an engine production facility. And Greaves yet builds a range of small diesels. Is it possible we could see a remarriage of Enfield and Greaves??????????????????

This is true. But I hope they don't choose this way.
I think, I take a tea and wait until there is something concrete from Enfield and/or Hero Honda.

Whatever this ends up being I just hope it's a good step forward for us. Whether that's CR, intergated gearbox or whatever, it has to do a job at the end of the day and I'll be happy if it performs well. Here's hoping... 8)

It's good to see a possible re emergence of the commercially built diesel enfield, it seems like the engine could be CRDI injected "common rail direct injected", this alone raises an interest to which engine they will use.

I guess we will never see it, but an engine gearbox combination would be good, the only thing they would probably be best doing is keeping the clutch transmission oil separate to the engine oil.

Certainly looking on with interest :)

It will be interesting to see if it's Hero Sen doing the push for diesel Enfields, I'll look into it further naturally when I get some spare time "rare these days".

Hopefully the reemergence of the Diesel Enfield will prevail :)
