where to buy a changfa 186 in the UK

Post by Riggo »

I'm looking to buy a changfa 186 engine for an enfield bullet conversion, where in the UK can I purchase one and what output shaft type is best, also could anybody tell me it's charging circuit output in amps?

Many thanks

where to buy a changfa 186 in the UK

hi Riggo
i found these 2 companies ( both do work thru Ebay aswell )
their websites are : www.portableenergyltd.co.uk and www.pump.co.uk
or just go thru Ebay. I cant personally recomend either of them as ive not dealt with them but worth a look.
I would say a straight shaft with keyway would be the easiest as I had to get a flange machined up to fit a sprocket on .
btw Kama and Suntom are also copies of Yanmar engines .
Good luck with your conversion .
cheers Rich

Hi Riggo

I recently bought a 186'er ChangFa from pump.co.uk with 1" shaft. I use a Comet variator bought from Duells in Sweden ( delivered from Finland actually )

Now I'm fitting it in a MZ ETZ251 Saxon Tour frame. I had to add 50 mm to the frame under the tank, to make space enough for the engine and drive. Feel free to ask if you'd like more info.
Have you seen the Suzuki GS550 with ChangFa engine here : http://www.diesel-bike.com/Diesel_Bike/Suzuki.html

Hi Riggo

The variator is a lot cheaper, if you don't have a useable gearbox. For me it's also a matter of space. The variator doesn't require much of it compared to the conventional gearbox. I don't have any knowledge about the lifetime of belts/efficiency and so on....I guess I'll just try it

BTW...I've still not finished the project.... bad bad bad ...I know....

I don't know what dynamo the Changfa comes with, but Yanmar shows both a 3amp and a 15 amp. My Launtop came with no dynamo i so I installed the 15 amp Yanmar unit. My Enfield is a model year 2000 and this dynamo works with the existing Enfield regulator and rectifier. If your bike has the A/C headlamp you can simply wire it D/C and eliminate the A/C headlight regulator. The Yanmar dynamo isn't all that expensive, I think $67.00 USD is what I paid here. If you want the Yanmar regulator/rectifier assy that is another $70.00 or so USD.
