Hello
In various places (e.g. Wikipedia article on diesel motorcycles) it is stated that the Royal Enfield Taurus was discontinued in 2001 because of pollution laws. However, in this page they reproduce an article from the Times of India claiming it was due to declining sales due to a draught (which sounds strange, since it would imply the slump in sales would be temporary). Does anyone know the details?

Thanks

Well I hear it was because of the polution Laws but I'm not absolutely certain of that. I can't remember who told me. Someone on the net I suspect. I was originally gonna get one shipped over but the guy didn't come through. In the end I bought a Charnwood Hatz.

Yes that was what I've been told too, pollution laws finally made them obsolete. If only they could have found better engines that met the pollution laws they may have continued them.
The Taurus was also grossly underpowered, a friends friend T.C imported a shipment here in Australia and couldn't sell them.
I think a good twin diesel setup would sell, power and economy.
