CB500T on the road

Post by DieselFly »

Well with ten miles on the clock and a bolt and leak check done. I set off downtown (15 mile each way) to Friday bike night behind City Hall on Market Square. The cats out of the bag there is a new custom in town and its diesel. I had the 10amp fuse blow that connects the main and essential buss togeather not a real problem as the fuel solenoid and starter control are on a 15amp fuse and switched hot off the battery. No big deal except I'm on a beginner permit and have to be off the road 1/2 hour after sunset. The lights still worked from the charging system when the revs were up so I hand signaled my way home. I was lucky to have my wife follow me (apparently my bike smokes) in her convertible home. All I can say is start or keep building its worth it wow how the jaws dropped. I drove 43 miles and burned roughly one litre of fuel thats 112mpg. The CVTech clutch is very smooth and provides good engine braking with the setup it had out of the box.

Thanks Neil

I have done four first flights on brand new airplanes and that is work. The bike pure fun I have 65 miles on it now got caught in the rain today but who cares. I have had it up to 65mph and it still has a little left. I might put one more tooth on the front sprocket. We have two days of rain in the forecast so I will use the time to give the bike a close look but so far so good. I'll get something up on Youtube this week

Sean, there's nothing like making 'jaws drop' is there :?: :D It gets people thinking that there are alternatives to building your standard type of custom bike. As you probably know from your other bikes, you can expect a lot of attention whenever you take this bike to somewhere frequented by motorcyclists. I ended up getting cards printed with the website address and handed them to guys who really showed some interest.

Stuart

The cards are a great idea. There is a bike rally coming up this weekend thats only 30 miles from here I'm still trying to get the details. The biggest weekly bike night for Kingston is Wednesday and they put up photos every week might make the page. I'm back to work on the 2nd of September and the bike will be going with me if the weather is okay I am working on some media with the kids and the bike

The rain stopped late today so off I went. I had changed the flyweights in the drive clutch to try and get the clutch to up shift sooner and to fully shift out. I notice a marked improvement the rpm's are down at 50mph but still to high and the cvt still is not shifting fully to high so I will go at the springs next. I turned in the max fuel stop five turns and its still pumping out clouds of black smoke. I taped over the oil cooler trying to get some temp in the oil I see a thermostatic bypass valve in the future. I have 103 miles on it so far the highway fuel consuption was awful but it accelerated like a dirtbike so I'll keep at making it a cruiser. Nothing but sun in the forcast so the testing will continue.

Turned over 300 miles today and also got to ride it to work. I changed the spring in the drive clutch and it has allowed almost a full shift of the CVT. It is has drop the engagement RPM and also the revs around town. It still has lots of grunt of the line. I was looking for a 55mph (90kph) cruise and the bike is very happy at that speed and has no problems with hills. Flat out a saw 75mph. I will get the gps out and check how close the speedo is it is very close to the car. Combined highway and city gives me 88.9mpg (imp) and I was not trying to get good mileage . The bike has needed some adjusting and had a few problems but has always got me home. I have had no problems in the last 100 miles and will try to get a new video up on Youtube this weekend.

Very nice. Someone in Europe needs to get their act together and start selling these V2 on a regular basis. Or the watercooled Kipor, would be fine as well
