hi all. new here. help with 3 cylinder 1028 cc

Post by ambuuu »

My interest in things diesel comes from the fact that i own a royal enfield taurus among other automobiles and have been riding it for many years( more than 120,000 kms ). after numerous modifications and alterations mainly to the engine and powerplant , i can confidently say that this is quite unique and better performing (acceleration) than most stock enfield diesels. it reaches a top speed of 100 km/hr. with a 18 teeth front sprocket and returns around 58 - 62 km/litre of mileage. altough fuel consumption drops as low as to 45 km/lite when ridden hard .
i do a lot of touring on this bike and have ridden most of the himalayas on it. yup ,i have ridden the manali to leh route on this one (dunno if u 've heard about this route ) altough it wasnt very pleasant for the bike's health i.e. all that pulling in the first gear while slipping the clutch for hours at a stretch,i guess i am the only moron to try n do it in a diesel ( hundreds go on petrol enfields).

Well recently ive been planning to transplant the tiny greaves unit with something more powerful. Heiko's diesel tigers are a big inspiration. am planning to acquire the 3 cylinder 1028 cc lombardini unit which kohler is gonna provide in India with common rail direct injection instead of indirect injection and mate it to ultima 6 speed box.. suggestions or advice from anybody would be immensely appreciated.

if your going to go with that large of a Kohler/Lombardini I suggest you get a new donor bike to transplant into. Just a guess, I'm certainly no expert on Enfields but in thinking of its orginal power outputs and a design made to fit that senario, it is possible that all those CC's in a Enfield is pushing it beyond the envelope of it's design. Just, not sure the enfield frame is up to a powerplant that large much less BRAKES of the bike itself capable to stop you safely in emergency situations.

PS- I haven Ulitma 6spd and 3" belt drive for sale if intrested though shipping to India from US might be a bit hair raising.

Hi Ambuuu

I'm with the coach on this one, that 3 cyl motor is probably too big for the humble Enfield.

Sounds like some great adventures

Ambuuu is this your Taurus?
