regulator/rectifier for 12V/200W
After prematurely ending the life of an innocent light bulb (may the Diesel God have mercy) it is obvious that I need to reinstall my regulator. Unfortunately it has been "misplaced". I've tried to locate the Enfield regulator and alternator specs in order to determine if this is a viable candidate, but I can't really find useful information.
I guess it needs to be something that can dissipate in excess of 200-250W (safety margin?) because Murphy dictates that the headlight will die on me at 3600rpm leaving almost no other major consumer. Any idea about the Enfield one or replacements?

Re: regulator/rectifier for 12V/200W
Just made a quick test with some junkbox components
With a resistor , a zenerdiode and a MOSFET I created
a nice 10 Amp voltage limiter .
Voltage absolutely stable between 0,25 and 10 A.
On lower currents the voltage drops 2 V ,have to correct
that , because the regulator is connected parallel at the
battery
So making a rectifier/ voltage limiter seems to be easy.
Next step is upgrade the limiter to 20 A 250 Watt
When succesfull and if there is interest I can post
pictures and a diagram

Hi,
The enfield regulator gives problems at only 100 watt output, I think at 200w you need a better one.
John.

I'd like to see the diagram when you're ready. A friends diesel Enfield had a broken regulator and I'd like to sort it for him.Nanko wrote:Just made a quick test with some junkbox components

I guess we'll be testing the prototype this weekend. If I get the wiring sorted

If they ever open a branch in Holland I will let you know

Not for permanent magnet alternators , fitted in most stationary engines.
They need a parallel regulator , when voltage reaches 14 V it shorts
the AC output.
Thyristors are used in spheres prototype , big advantage is dissipation
is low.

I can tell you that the stator on a DRZ400 will put out a max of 200w...
So the reg/reg will be able to take it, so perhaps it would be a good candidate...
If you do get one, connect the red and black (with white stripe) directly to the battery terminals...
Will then give the battery a good amount of power

Wasteful of energy though. At 10hp it will make a difference.
Try a cheap switch mode power supply on ebay. Here's one that will handle the headlight wattage, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4-35V-DC-Conv ... 3366666c26
