enfield seat

Post by arnaud »

Hi,
Because it takes longer on a enfield diesel to get anywhere, one must have a good seat!
i disregarded the modern 500 bullet buddy seat soon, because it is much too soft, and just not sitting well,
As i am experimenting with a second enfield solo-saddle, i've come to he conclusion they won't function good.. ever!
Despite additional padding, after a long seat, especially on the way home in a summe rholiday, the seat frame lodges itself in the posterior part of my body.
So, i am planning to try a rubber ural or dnepr seat, since i have better experiences with this type.

But.. Recently i saw an early eighties bullet with an old type flat buddy seat, and it looks like you can order this type new?

Does anyone here have experience with this type?
is it just as soft, or better as the recent seats?

Lot of Iron Butt riders swear by Airhawk which is also in that article. They are EXPENSIVE. BUT... the manufacture; Roho, is probably the best in the business. Its a lay over your existing seat type. One of the Roho family must be a bike rider cause.... Roho is NOT a bike seat company. Not even close. They manufacture medical Cushion seats etc. for those who LIVE in a wheel chair or bed. Im sitting on one right now that my dad confiscated some how. He worked with wheel chair bound people as a Therapist. Wheel chair version of these seats are around $400usd. BIKE version about $150usd?

Im sure someone on the other side of the pond carries Roho too?

Have a look at the "large american saddle" sold by these guys,http://www.hitchcocksmotorcycles.com/ I've just fitted one to my rigid panther , I find it very comfortable.

I had such a one on a dnepr. After a long ride (more then 2-3 hours) the same problem as with the enfield spring seat..
Maybe it works better with other people..

Lots of seats available for the Enfield, you might want to try the 'street' single seat.

It's longer than the saddle and unsprung.

At the end of the day it's mostly cheaper to re-upholster the original seat pan to your own preferances.

You mentioned rubber Ural / Dnepr saddles - they're quite comfy on a long run, since the frame runs under the seat perimeter as opposed to through the middle, and so can't get lodged anywhere...

I find on std Ural the seat is a little too far forward, meaning I gravitate towards the rear of it and the lip on the rear edge 'makes an impression'. On Ural-Daihatsu the seat is further back, so this is less of a problem - but wind blast at higher speed makes me tend to slide off the back anyway. I'm tempted to add something smart about Enfield conversions and the possibility of this problem, but I won't.

cheers

I too had some difficult finding a seat that "fit" me. I finally made my own and have found it to be quite comfortable.

If you are right handed you have a larger and lower left nut.

Much thought was put into the statue 'David', either the model was left handed or the artist used a mirror on himself.
