Chang jiang 750 solo

Post by navinav »

I was wondering if anyone has had any experience in the CJ 750 solo. I was going to import one from china without a motor to put the diesel in. The only problem I see is that it has a rear drum brake and I'm not sure if it can be changed. I like the military retro look and was not able to find any other bikes with this style other then the enfield mil. model.

Sadly, I have no experience with the Chinese BMW clones but I too love the industrial, military looks. Can they be imported minus the engine?

Regarding the drum rear brakes.... To me, that would not be a deal breaker. The rear brake on a motorcycle does a tiny portion of the braking anyhow! What front brakes do they come with?

Hello,
There is a seller on ebay who says he can ship without engine and tranny. There are plenty of other reputable companies I have found that act as brokers as well for customs. I figured it would be easier if you were getting it without engine and transmission for customs reasons but most of these bikes have 1938 on their title. They are old bikes with new parts and there are millions of them in China. Most of the solo models I have seen have been upgraded to front disc brakes.
I was initially looking for a chopper kit but I could not find an affordable one. 2000 dollars for standard solo model with front discs. Bout another 1000 dollars for shipping. I'm assuming minus the engine and transmission maybe 500 cheaper. Still not bad at 3000 as a teaching tool for me. Too make it official I want to throw a chinese longfar in there with a cvt.

It seems used ones are fairly reasonable on Craigslist, depending on where you live.

Found out last night a friend picked up a 1988 R100GS with off road side car for $4500. Yup, there are better deals out there.

I've been looking on craigslist and found some sidecar models but non that are solo. I'm not sure if they just detach the sidecar for the solo models. I doubt it though because the solo's have motorcycle angled tires where the sidecar models have flat tires because they do not lean. If the tires are the only difference I wonder if I could just detach one and replace the tires.

It´s quite simple and straightforward job. Few wires must cut/take away, ie wires for sidecar lights, and then mainly just unbolting mountings (4 of them)

You´ll need some supports under sidecar since it will tip over if not supported propery after loosing mountings + bike itself will also tip over if not supported properly.

Tiretype is no issue, just the looks.
that should do it

Hi,
If its the same swingarm bushes as the dnepr which I believe they are, they are not suitable for solo riding and must be replaced for a different type.

I've seen huge quality differences with the CJ, at least you will need a ural or dnepr full hub front with double leading breaks.
look at CJU for the info you will need.
