Well i've done it now !
well bought a diesel engine to build a bike around, wont post any pics until i have 90% the parts i require to get the dry build done !
Base motor is Peugeot 306 Turbo Diesel ...... mmmmmmmmm turboooooo (homer simpson)
Possible use a gl1000 frame and wheels shaft drive option .....but also looking at a hydrostatic drive.
So will post in a few months after i've completed my shopping or sooner !

up the boost, fueling and fit a seperate intercooler
that should give you enough power (110~130hp )

Not sure if that model 306 has a duel mass flywheel or not but keep an eye on it if it has. They seem to have a high failure rate.

Any engine has issues no matter the make , but i'll fully check it out before i start the build....!!

I bought this one today. I sold is 5 years ago and it didn't go into anothers bike so guess what? This time it may go in to my bike It has hardly any milage on it which is good

Kubota Z482 which is plodding on with unnerving reliability. Three years so far.

Don't know yet ....... there a few options...possible weld up one side of the diff and use the original drive shaft

I personally like a manual box...
and auto would be ok I suppose (just dont like the idea of it changing gear mid corner :S)
and as for hydrostatic :S
only ever had a go on a little buggy thing with hydrostatic drive...
I dont like it...feels weird and remote (worse than a CVT )
But, its up to you, its your bike, you know what you like
nothing is impossible

Just want to simplify the build really, not looking to go anywhere fast as i'm a cruiser bike man and like to tour and just need to make sure that the bike has grunt and power going through the alps ect and carry all the crap thats required !!

then I wouldnt think hydro was the way to go...its expensive and fiddly...
the the manual box is a case of weld the diff, fit a gearchange linkage and a clutch.
auto box, if you arent worried about it changing mid corner I suppose is a little easier as you dont have to work out a clutch, the gear linkage is even simpler...
good luck with what ever you choose

Congrats on the new engine, RustyWreck - almost the same one as in my trike (mine's a 1767cc XUDT from a Peugeot 405). Does yours have an intercooler? Mine has, but it needed to be repositioned as it sat too high.
I have a spec sheet for the full range of XUD engines on pdf. Ditto for the 1.5 TUD, I think ... oh, hang on, the sites I downloaded them from are back up & running:

Suggest that anyone who wants to refer to these in future actually saves a copy to their own hard drive, as these two sites disappeared for a while.
