Hello,
I'm new tot the diesel bikes but verry interested in a building project with an royal enfield.
Can you give me some information about the engine and the link between engine and gearbox? I found a few engines like
Lombardini 435cc diesel
Yanmar diesel
Hatz diesel
Hatz 462
Greaves diesel
But the yanmar L100 is most used, is this right? (wel the immitation yanmar)
The engine is something like 400 euro new of the shelf so that is quite doable.
But how is the engine connected to het gearbox? and does the Yanmar have a stator for electrics or is this done differently?
does annyone may be have some photos for me of the engine?
thanks, I'm realy enthausiastic about this project!

Re: first time dieael project
the engine and gearbox are usually connected via a chain and sprocket setup.
the yanmars (and clones) are popular because they are cheap, simple and reliable.
the hatz are good solid engines that have been used in a number of conversions.
the lombardini and greaves are good engines. I think the Taurus Enfield had a lombardini/greaves engine.
I know some of the yanmar (and clones) have a stator, but you can always use an external alternator if it hasnt.
Hope that helps...

The other option you have for drive from the engine is to use a CVT and then a jackshaft to the back wheel
here is an MZ with the CVT to a jackshaft:
http://www.dieselbike.net/privateconver ... hangfa.jpg
and have a read through these pages:
http://www.dieselbike.net/AndrewsRoyalE ... nfield.htm
http://www.dieselbike.net/Dansbike/Dansbike.html
http://www.dieselbike.net/SuzukiGSXbuil ... build.html
And also:

Have a browse through those pages...
They show some of the different options/ideas using a small engine...
Enjoy

Okee, chain it is then.
How long does the chain last and how do you oil it?
I've found this engine
http://www.halvewerk.nl/Webwinkel-Produ ... start.html
10 HP at 3600 rpm
25,4 mm shaft
2 year garantee
And 450 euro's
Will this engine work in a enfield, or are there special things that I have to look for? Must the engine be clockwise or counter clokwise or is this standard with these engines?
And about the enfield, what is imporant? I's there a special type that is better suited for the job?

Hey Guus,
These guys might be cheaper if you want to go the China diesel route. If you want a Lombardini or a Hatz, stake out advertentiezoeker.nl and ebay.de / ebay.co.uk.

'92 Enfield + Hatz 1B40: street legal, weld up stainless exhaust, check engine rpm and change final drive sprocket.

Hello!
thanks for the link! The same engine for 100 euro cheaper. thats nice
And the site about the enfield build is really nice. Clear information.
At this time I have enough information to start the build. Only the financial picture is not to good at the moment.
I'm gonna start in september I think. Then I got time enough and I can put the thing together in my basement.
I can start a search for a old enfield. I hope to find one for about 500/600 euro's, pull it apart and powdercoat all the bits and pieces.
I'll keep you op to date
