Yanmar V-Twin in Atlanta

Post by pietenpol2002 »

These vertical shaft Yanmars can reportedly be converted to horizontal. And that price is what some are asking for the little 10 hp clones.

do you have links or keyword suggestions to seek out info on the conversion you spoke of? quick search of the net and I didn't find anything.

Looks a bargain.

Nice engine :)

Would be a good one to use with a lawnmower gearbox :P

Converting a 2V from vertical to horizontal is fairly easy. There are a few machining operations that must be done to the bottom bearing cover/sump and a new oil pickup tube must be fabricated. If you decide to go that route, call Jim Martin and Martin Diesel in Defiance, Ohio. He's a Yanmar distributor and has converted several 2V's to run horizontally.

I worked for Yanmar for over 7 years and was the engineering product manager for the 2V engine series. The engine had incredible potential but Yanmar Japan never fully committed to the engine line. Sad, they could have taken all kinds of market share from other engine companies.

Amazing piece of information. The vertical variant pops up in Europe (Holland) every now and then, albeit a bit pricier.
