CVT /automatic diesel bikes

Post by arnaud »

Hi everyone,
Comet and other variomatic gearboxes seem to be used quite a lot for diesel conversions.
I just saw brian rutherfords MZ trophy diesel and i liked it a lot.
Another page mentioned problems with the MZ robin conversion regarding to the automatic gearbox..
To all who have experience with it.
1 is it difficult to build a automatic gearbox in a frame?
2 how does it drive, i guess the picking up in corners is a little different, and you need really good front brake?
3 how does it pull with a passenger?
4 are the grearbox-units sturdy enough?

Thanks!
I noticed that the 400 and other Burgman motorscooters also have a cvt transmission, maybe a good source for us?

From waht i can see on the sales-pages, i'm not sure how to built one in.
1 disc goed on the crankshaft, the other must carry the 'gearbox' sprocket, but it need some support in the motorcycle frame, right? how's that done?
And, if you have it for around 300 dollar, i'm not sure why poeple claims there' expensive..
